How to Sell a Broken Blender

A broken blender is still worth selling — typically £4 to £18 at For Parts, against £15 to £70 in working order.

Can you sell a blender that does not work?

Yes. Repairers, people replacing one component and buyers who want a project all shop deliberately at this end. None of them will accept a fault they discover after paying.

What actually goes wrong with blenders

These are the faults that move a blender down the grades, and the first things a buyer will ask about:

  • Cracked jugs, which are model-specific
  • Blunt or pitted blades
  • Perished seals causing leaks
  • Low-power motors that stall

Grading it honestly

Fair covers something heavily used, or with a described fault or missing part: around £7 to £32. For Parts covers something not working or incomplete, sold as seen: roughly £4 to £18. Grades are seller-declared and nobody inspects them for you, so grading up does not raise what you get — it produces a buyer who arrives expecting something else. All five grades explained.

Working out what you actually have

Establish the fault properly rather than guessing at it:

  1. Run it with water and check for leaks at the base
  2. Inspect the jug for hairline cracks
  3. Check the blade assembly turns freely

Photographing the fault

Photograph the damage directly and in focus — it is the evidence that the rest of the description is honest:

  1. The blender assembled, whole
  2. The jug held to the light, showing clarity or crazing
  3. The blade assembly and gasket from underneath
  4. The model marking, plus any crack, chip or perished seal

What to state in the listing

Alongside the fault itself, buyers of broken blenders want these confirmed:

  • Jug capacity and whether glass or plastic
  • Motor wattage and number of speed settings
  • What attachments, cups or lids are included
  • Whether the jug leaks, and the blade and gasket condition

Brand, capacity and power: “Nutribullet 900W Blender with 2 Cups” or “Glass Jug Blender, 1.5L, 800W”. Wattage matters for ice and frozen fruit. Say whether the jug is glass or plastic, which is a real preference, and how many cups or attachments are included.

What buyers will ask

Answer these in the listing rather than waiting to be asked:

“Does the jug leak?”

Fill it with water and leave it standing. A weeping base seal is the standard failure and it is easily tested before listing.

“Is the jug crazed?”

Hold it to the light. Plastic jugs craze and cloud with age and dishwasher use, and it is very visible in person.

“Are the blades sharp?”

Look for chips and dullness. Blade assemblies are replaceable on many models, which is worth saying.

Is it worth repairing first?

Usually not, unless it is cheap and you can evidence it. What lifts the price is condition and completeness, which a repair rarely restores:

  • High-power motors for ice and frozen fruit
  • Undamaged jugs with no cracks
  • Sharp, unpitted blade assemblies
  • Recognised brands with spares available

If the work would cost more than the gap between £18 and what a sound one fetches, sell it as is broken and let the buyer decide.

When to list it

Lifts in January and again in spring. High-power blenders from known brands sell within days; basic models compete on price.

Getting it to the buyer

Pack the jug separately from the base with the blade assembly wrapped. Glass jugs need heavy protection and are the usual transit casualty.

WishThrift does not process payments, arrange delivery or hold funds. Confirm the money has cleared before the item leaves your hands, and keep the conversation on the site so there is a record of what was agreed.

Frequently asked questions

Is a broken blender worth anything?

Yes — typically £4 to £18 at For Parts against £15 to £70 working. Repairers and people harvesting one component buy deliberately at this end. Cracked jugs, which are model-specific

Should I repair it before selling?

Usually not, unless the repair is cheap and you can evidence it. The things that genuinely lift the price are high-power motors for ice and frozen fruit and a repair rarely restores those.

What do buyers ask about a faulty blender?

The fault itself, in detail. Fill it with water and leave it standing. A weeping base seal is the standard failure and it is easily tested before listing. The listing that answers it before being asked is the one that sells.
