What a used tent is worth by condition
Condition does more to the price than anything else. These figures are worked from the top of the range for tents, so treat them as a starting point and adjust for the specifics of yours.
| Condition | Typical price | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| New with Tags | £200 | Unused, tags or seals intact |
| Like New | £170 | Barely used, no visible wear |
| Good | £130 | Light signs of use, complete and working |
| Fair | £90 | Heavily used, or a described fault or missing part |
| For Parts | £50 | Not working or incomplete, sold as seen |
These are the five grades WishThrift listings use, and sellers set the grade themselves — see what each condition grade means. Figures are shown in pounds as a reference point. On WishThrift prices display in your own currency, and sellers set their own asking price.
What raises the value of a tent
- A flysheet with intact waterproof coating
- Poles with no cracks and elastic still under tension
- Complete with pegs, guylines and inner
- Recognised outdoor brands with spares available
What lowers it
- Delaminated or flaking waterproof coating
- Cracked poles and perished shock cord
- Mildew from being packed away damp
- Missing inner tents or pegs
How to work out what yours is worth
- Pitch it fully in the garden before listing
- Check the flysheet coating for flaking on the inside
- Flex every pole section and check the shock cord tension
Once you have those three answers you can place your own tent on the table above with reasonable confidence. If it sits between two rows, price it toward the lower one — items priced honestly sell faster than items priced hopefully.

Frequently asked questions
How do I check a used tent before selling?
Pitch it. It is the only way to find cracked poles, perished shock cord and missing pegs, and it lets you photograph it properly.
What is delamination on a tent?
The waterproof coating breaking down into a flaking layer on the inside of the flysheet. Once it goes the tent leaks and is worth little.
Does mildew ruin a tent?
It stains permanently and smells, and it means the tent was packed damp. Disclose it, since buyers will notice on first pitch.
