How to read these comparisons
A fee percentage on its own decides very little. Three things matter more than the headline rate, and every comparison page covers all three:
- Who actually pays. A platform that charges the seller nothing may still charge the buyer a protection fee, which comes out of the same transaction — it just comes out of what the buyer was willing to spend rather than what you receive.
- What the fee buys. eBay’s 13.6% pays for an audience built over decades; Vestiaire’s fee pays for physical authentication of luxury goods. WishThrift offers neither, and on the right item those services are worth far more than they cost.
- Whether free stays free. Several platforms are free to list on but sell promoted placement, which quietly turns a free listing into a slow one. WishThrift has no paid tier at all.
WishThrift is also newer and much smaller than almost everything on this list, and no amount of fee arithmetic changes that. Because listing costs nothing, the useful question is not which platform to pick but whether there is any reason not to run WishThrift alongside the one you already use.
The fees charged to buyers, which most comparisons ignore
Almost every fee comparison online looks only at what the seller pays, and that gives a misleading picture. A buyer-side fee comes out of the same transaction: it raises what the buyer must find, which means it lowers what they are willing to agree with you. On the platforms below, the seller’s headline rate is not the whole cost of the sale.
- Vinted charges sellers nothing, but the buyer pays a Buyer Protection fee of 5% of the item price plus roughly $0.70, with the fixed part varying by market.
- Mercari charges the seller a flat 10% and the buyer a separate 3.6% protection fee.
- Vestiaire Collective charges the seller a selling fee plus processing, and the buyer a separate service and authentication fee.
- Wallapop is free for individuals to list, but buyers pay shipping plus a protection fee on shipped orders.
- Shpock applies a buyer protection fee on delivery sales, on top of the membership sellers now need in order to list at all.
- Carousell applies a CarouPay transaction fee on protected payments.
WishThrift charges neither side. That is the honest differentiator now that Depop and Vinted have both moved to 0% seller fees — “free for sellers” is no longer unusual, but free for sellers and buyers still is. The price you and the buyer agree is the entire transaction.
What WishThrift does not do
Worth being direct about, because it is the other half of an honest comparison. WishThrift does not authenticate or inspect items, does not process or hold payments, does not arrange shipping or provide labels, does not offer buyer protection, and does not handle returns. Buyers and sellers deal with each other directly and settle payment and handover between themselves. That is precisely why there are no fees — and it means that on a high-value item where verification or protected payment genuinely matters, a platform that charges for those services may well be the better choice.

Frequently asked questions
Which second-hand marketplace has the lowest fees?
Several charge nothing to list and take no commission: WishThrift, Gumtree, Craigslist, Kijiji, Preloved, Carousell, Wallapop, Nextdoor and OLX within its category limits. Among those, WishThrift is the one with no paid promotion tier and no buyer-side fee, so no listing is ever pushed below one that was paid for. The most expensive of the major platforms is Poshmark at 20%.
Does WishThrift charge sellers anything at all?
No. There is no listing fee, no commission at any sale price, and no fee charged to the buyer either. WishThrift does not process payments, hold funds or arrange shipping — buyer and seller agree payment and handover directly — which is why there is nothing to deduct.
Are these fee figures up to date?
All rates on these pages were verified on 26 July 2026 against each platform’s own published fee documentation, and they are reviewed quarterly. Three models had changed shortly before that check: Depop moved to 0% selling fees for US and UK sellers, Mercari reinstated a flat 10% fee, and Shpock began requiring a paid membership to list. Fee pages change without notice, so confirm before a large sale.
