• Yellowed or separating midsoles, which is the normal end state of a stored pair and cannot be reversed
• Creased leather toe boxes, the first thing a buyer zooms in on and the commonest reason a worn pair is discounted
• General-release colourways produced in very large numbers, which have little scarcity to price against
• A missing or mismatched box, since the box label carries the style code buyers use to confirm what the pair is

Identifying and dating yours

1. The style code is printed on the size tag inside the shoe and again on the box label; the two should match, and buyers ask for both
2. The heel branding differs between eras — some retros carry Nike Air and others do not — and buyers use it to place the release year
3. Photograph the midsole and the toe box honestly, because those two areas decide most of the price on a worn pair

Preparing and photographing it

1. Read the label for the fill: down, feather or synthetic wadding, and the outer fabric.
2. Check the hood, its fur trim and whether both detach, plus every zip, popper and drawcord.
3. Test whether water still beads on the outer, and say honestly if the coating has washed off.

The box label carries the style code, which identifies exactly which release and colourway a pair is. A pair sold without its box is harder to place and usually sells for less as a result.
