Before you photograph it
Ten minutes here is worth more than anything else you will do. Buyers are deciding between your listing and someone else’s, and preparation is what visibly separates the two.
- Defrost it completely, dry it out and leave the door ajar so it does not develop a smell before collection.
- Check every drawer and flap for cracks, and note the model and capacity from the rating plate inside.
- Run it for a day and confirm it holds temperature, so you can say honestly that it works.
The photographs that sell a freezer
Four photographs do almost all the work. Shoot in daylight, near a window, with the item against something plain — and do not use the flash, which flattens texture and hides exactly what buyers are trying to see.

- The interior with the door open, defrosted and dry, drawers visible
- The rating plate showing make, model, capacity and energy rating
- The door seal all the way round, plus any dent, rust patch or cracked drawer
Photograph the flaws too. It feels counterproductive, but a listing that shows the worst of an item gets fewer questions, fewer withdrawn offers and fewer arguments at handover. Buyers who can see the damage stop imagining something worse.
Writing the title and description
Type and capacity lead: “Under Counter Freezer, 4 Star, 85L” or “Tall Frost Free Freezer, 6 Drawer, 60cm Wide”. Frost free is a genuine search, and so is chest versus upright, because they suit completely different spaces.
Then state these in the description, because a buyer who has to ask is a buyer who might not bother:
- External width, height and depth in centimetres, and internal capacity in litres
- Type — chest, upright, under counter or integrated — and whether frost free
- Star rating and energy rating, and make, model and approximate age
- That it has been run and holds temperature, plus the state of the seal and drawers
What buyers will actually ask
You will receive the same three messages about a freezer. Answering them in the listing itself removes the back-and-forth, and answering them well when they do arrive is what turns an enquiry into a sale.
Run it with a thermometer inside for a day and give the reading. It is the only claim that matters on a freezer and the only one worth making from evidence.
