The short version
- Typical range: £6,000 – £30,000 — see the full motorhome value guide
- What decides your price: condition, and how well you evidence it in photographs
- Cost to sell here: nothing, at any price
- Category: Vehicles
Before you photograph it
Ten minutes here is worth more than anything else you will do. Buyers are deciding between your listing and someone else’s, and preparation is what visibly separates the two.
- Gather everything: registration document, full service history, MOT history, habitation service certificates, gas safety check and handbooks.
- Confirm there is no outstanding finance, and be ready to evidence it. Buyers run checks against the registration.
- Check for damp throughout the habitation area and test every system — fridge, heating, water, electrics, hookup and leisure battery.
The photographs that sell a motorhome
Four photographs do almost all the work. Shoot in daylight, near a window, with the item against something plain — and do not use the flash, which flattens texture and hides exactly what buyers are trying to see.
- The whole vehicle outside, from both front and rear three-quarter angles
- The full interior including beds made up and the washroom
- The cab, the odometer reading and the engine bay
- The habitation service paperwork, plus any damp, rust, delamination or repair
Photograph the flaws too. It feels counterproductive, but a listing that shows the worst of an item gets fewer questions, fewer withdrawn offers and fewer arguments at handover. Buyers who can see the damage stop imagining something worse.
Writing the title and description
Make, base vehicle, year, berth and layout: “[Make] on Fiat Ducato, 2017, 4 Berth, Fixed Rear Bed, 46k Miles”. Berth, layout and mileage are the searches. Habitation service history and a recent MOT belong in the title because they materially move the price.
Then state these in the description, because a buyer who has to ask is a buyer who might not bother:
- Make, model, base vehicle, year, mileage and berth
- Layout, and licence category needed for the weight
- Service history for both the base vehicle and the habitation area, with dates
- Everything included — awning, bike rack, solar, gas bottles, accessories
What buyers will actually ask
You will receive the same three messages about a motorhome. Answering them in the listing itself removes the back-and-forth, and answering them well when they do arrive is what turns an enquiry into a sale.
Answer plainly and be ready to prove it. On a vehicle at this value a buyer will always check, and any ambiguity ends the conversation.
Give the date and show the certificate. Habitation servicing is separate from the engine service and buyers who know motorhomes ask for it specifically.
Expect this and plan for it. Check the buyer’s licence and insurance cover first, go with them, and treat a refusal to show a licence as the warning it is.
Pricing it so it actually sells
Start from the honest condition grade rather than the price you hope for. WishThrift listings use five grades — New with Tags, Like New, Good, Fair and For Parts — and what each grade means is worth reading before you choose, because grading up is the most expensive mistake sellers make. It does not raise the price; it produces a buyer who arrives expecting something else.
The motorhome value guide prices all five grades for this item. Pick your grade, take the figure, and if you sit between two grades price toward the lower one. Items priced honestly sell faster than items priced hopefully, and on a free platform there is no fee eating the difference anyway.
What you keep, compared
On a £18,000 sale — roughly the middle of the range for a motorhome — here is what the commission-charging platforms would take, and what you would keep on each:
| Where you sell it | Fee | You keep |
|---|---|---|
| WishThrift | £0 | £18,000 |
| Poshmark | −£3,600 | £14,400 |
| eBay | −£2,448 | £15,552 |
| Mercari | −£1,800 | £16,200 |
| Etsy | −£1,170 | £16,830 |
Seller-side rates verified 26 Jul 2026 — Poshmark: 20% commission on sales of $15 and above; eBay: 13.6% final value fee, plus a per-order fee; Mercari: flat 10% selling fee; Etsy: 6.5% transaction fee, plus a listing fee and payment processing. Percentages are applied to the sterling figure above; the fixed per-order and processing charges those platforms add are quoted in their own currency and are not included here, so the real deductions are slightly larger. Timing and getting it to the buyer
February to August, peaking in spring. Autumn listings take longer and achieve less, so if it is late in the year, storing until spring is usually worth more than accepting a winter offer.
Never release the vehicle or the registration document until funds have fully cleared in your account. Complete the registration transfer promptly, write a dated receipt naming both parties, the registration and the price, and keep a copy. WishThrift does not process or hold funds at any point.
WishThrift does not process payments or arrange delivery — you and the buyer agree both directly — so confirm payment has cleared before the item leaves your hands, and keep the conversation on the site so there is a record of what was agreed.
Ready to list it? It takes about two minutes, costs nothing, and there is no commission when it sells — create a free account or see how selling works.
Frequently asked questions
What is a used motorhome worth?
Typically £6,000 to £30,000 and beyond, driven by age, mileage, layout and habitation condition. See the motorhome value guide for the bands.
How should I take payment for a motorhome?
A bank transfer confirmed as fully cleared in your own account before anything changes hands. Refuse part-payment arrangements, overpayment refunds and any third-party payment-holding service the buyer introduces.
Do I need a habitation service certificate to sell?
You are not obliged to have one, but a recent certificate is worth real money and its absence invites a lower offer. If yours is overdue, getting one done often more than pays for itself.
