What a fair price looks like
Condition on WishThrift is described by the seller against five grades, and nobody inspects it on your behalf — so the description and the photographs are what you are buying on.

The checklist before you pay
Large appliances that need collection and a van, and small ones that have simply been descaled badly or not at all. On cookware, the state of the coating.
Run through these before money changes hands — they are the things that decide whether a dishwasher is worth what is being asked:
- Blocked spray arms leaving dishes dirty
- Rusted or broken rack tines and missing clips
- Leaks from the door seal or base
- Persistent error codes mid-cycle
And the things worth paying more for, because they hold their value:
- Recent models with quieter operation ratings
- Clean filters, spray arms and door seal
- All racks, cutlery baskets and clips present
- Working salt and rinse aid dispensers
Common faults and fakes
Counterfeit premium cookware exists and is usually detectable on weight and base markings, which genuine pieces cast in rather than print.
Ask for the model number and the age, and for large appliances ask whether it can be wheeled out and whether there are stairs. Ask for a photograph of the interior.

Questions to ask the seller
These are the three that get asked most often about a dishwasher, and the answers tell you most of what you need:
Run a full cycle before listing and say so. Heating and draining are the two failures that make a dishwasher scrap, and a tested machine sells for meaningfully more.
Say it in the title. An integrated machine without its door panel needs a kitchen fitter, and a buyer who did not realise that will not be pleased.
Clean the filter and seal, run a cleaner cycle, then answer honestly. Buyers open the door and smell it first, so there is no point overstating this.
Also worth establishing before you commit:
- Run a full cycle with a load and check the results honestly

- Look under the machine for any sign of past leaks
Photographs to ask for
If the listing does not already show these, ask — a seller who has the item will send them in minutes:
- The machine front on with the door closed, in place
- The door open showing both racks, clean, with the cutlery basket in
- The filter removed and the spray arms, showing they are clear
- The rating plate on the door frame, plus the seal and any rust or dent
Details to confirm before you commit
- Width, height and depth in centimetres, and whether integrated, semi-integrated or freestanding
- Place setting capacity and energy rating
- Make, model and approximate age
- That it has been tested on a full cycle, and any fault you know of

When to buy
Steady year-round with lifts around house moves. Clean, tested, recent machines in standard 60cm widths sell within a week or two.
Prices move against that cycle for a buyer: the cheapest time to buy is when sellers are listing most, not when demand peaks.
