What raises the value of a trading cards

  • Sharp corners, clean edges and centred printing
  • Professionally graded cards in sealed slabs
  • First edition and holographic printings
  • Sealed original packs and boxes

What lowers it

  • Soft or rounded corners, the first thing graders mark down
  • Surface scratches and print lines visible under angled light
  • Off-centre printing, which caps the achievable grade
  • Any crease, which effectively ends collector value

How to work out what yours is worth

  1. Examine corners and edges under bright angled light
  2. Check for first edition marks and set symbols
  3. Search sold listings for that exact card, set and grade

Once you have those three answers you can place your own trading cards on the table above with reasonable confidence. If it sits between two rows, price it toward the lower one — items priced honestly sell faster than items priced hopefully.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if my trading cards are valuable?

Identify the exact set and printing first, then assess condition honestly. The same card can be worth pennies or a great deal depending on both.

Is professional grading worth it?

Only for cards likely to grade highly and already worth a reasonable sum. Grading costs money and takes time, so it rarely pays on common cards.

Should I sell cards individually or as a collection?

Valuable singles almost always raise more separately. Bulk commons are better sold as a lot.
