The short version
- Typical range: £10 – £55 — see the full webcam value guide
- What decides your price: condition, and how well you evidence it in photographs
- Cost to sell here: nothing, at any price
- Category: Electronics
Before you photograph it
Ten minutes here is worth more than anything else you will do. Buyers are deciding between your listing and someone else’s, and preparation is what visibly separates the two.
- Test it and capture a still, then look at it honestly at full size to judge the real image quality.
- Check the microphone by recording a short clip, and test the clip or mount on a monitor edge.
- Note the true native resolution and frame rate rather than the marketing figure on the box.
The photographs that sell a webcam
Four photographs do almost all the work. Shoot in daylight, near a window, with the item against something plain — and do not use the flash, which flattens texture and hides exactly what buyers are trying to see.
- The webcam whole, with its mount
- An actual still image captured with it
- The mount clipped to a monitor, showing how it sits
- The model label and cable, plus any scratch on the lens
Photograph the flaws too. It feels counterproductive, but a listing that shows the worst of an item gets fewer questions, fewer withdrawn offers and fewer arguments at handover. Buyers who can see the damage stop imagining something worse.
Writing the title and description
Brand, model and real resolution: “Logitech C920 Webcam, 1080p 30fps, Built-in Mic”. Quote the native resolution and frame rate together, since 1080p at 30fps and at 60fps are quite different products. Say if it has a privacy shutter or autofocus.
Then state these in the description, because a buyer who has to ask is a buyer who might not bother:
- Brand, model, native resolution and frame rate
- Whether it has a microphone, autofocus and a privacy shutter
- Mount type and whether it has a tripod thread
- Cable length and connection type
What buyers will actually ask
You will receive the same three messages about a webcam. Answering them in the listing itself removes the back-and-forth, and answering them well when they do arrive is what turns an enquiry into a sale.
Capture a still and view it full size. Interpolated resolution figures are common and the actual image tells the truth.
Record a short clip and say. Many buyers rely on the built-in mic and it is worth confirming.
Describe the mount and whether it has a tripod thread. Thin monitors and laptop lids suit some clips badly.
Pricing it so it actually sells
Start from the honest condition grade rather than the price you hope for. WishThrift listings use five grades — New with Tags, Like New, Good, Fair and For Parts — and what each grade means is worth reading before you choose, because grading up is the most expensive mistake sellers make. It does not raise the price; it produces a buyer who arrives expecting something else.
The webcam value guide prices all five grades for this item. Pick your grade, take the figure, and if you sit between two grades price toward the lower one. Items priced honestly sell faster than items priced hopefully, and on a free platform there is no fee eating the difference anyway.
What you keep, compared
On a £32 sale — roughly the middle of the range for a webcam — here is what the commission-charging platforms would take, and what you would keep on each:
| Where you sell it | Fee | You keep |
|---|---|---|
| WishThrift | £0 | £32 |
| Poshmark | −£6 | £26 |
| eBay | −£4 | £28 |
| Mercari | −£3 | £29 |
| Etsy | −£2 | £30 |
Seller-side rates verified 26 Jul 2026 — Poshmark: 20% commission on sales of $15 and above; eBay: 13.6% final value fee, plus a per-order fee; Mercari: flat 10% selling fee; Etsy: 6.5% transaction fee, plus a listing fee and payment processing. Percentages are applied to the sterling figure above; the fixed per-order and processing charges those platforms add are quoted in their own currency and are not included here, so the real deductions are slightly larger. Timing and getting it to the buyer
Lifts in September and January, and whenever remote working increases. Well-known models sell within days because new ones are more expensive than people expect.
Small and cheap to post. Protect the lens and include the full cable, which on some models is fixed and not replaceable.
WishThrift does not process payments or arrange delivery — you and the buyer agree both directly — so confirm payment has cleared before the item leaves your hands, and keep the conversation on the site so there is a record of what was agreed.

Frequently asked questions
What is a used webcam worth?
Typically £10 to £55, with 1080p60 and 4K models above. See the webcam value guide for the bands.
Is a used webcam as good as a new one?
Webcams barely wear out, so a well-regarded older model often outperforms a cheap new one. Saying which model it is lets buyers look up the reviews themselves.
Should I include a sample image?
Yes. An actual still captured with the camera is the most convincing thing you can put in the listing and almost no seller does it.
