Condition on WishThrift is described by the seller against five grades, and nobody inspects it on your behalf — so the description and the photographs are what you are buying on.

The checklist before you pay
Safety history you cannot see. A car seat that has been in a collision, a cot with a replaced part, or an item subject to a recall all look completely normal.
Run through these before money changes hands — they are the things that decide whether a high chair is worth what is being asked:
- Missing harnesses, which are a safety requirement
- Stained or cracked trays
- Wobbling frames and worn adjustment mechanisms
- Basic plastic chairs, which sell for very little
And the things worth paying more for, because they hold their value:
- Convertible designs that adjust as the child grows
- Removable, dishwasher-safe trays and washable covers
- Recognised brands with replacement parts available
- Complete with harness, tray and footrest
Common faults and fakes
Counterfeit car seats and carriers exist and fail catastrophically in exactly the situation they were bought for. Buy safety-critical items new.
Ask for the manufacture date and model number, then check the recall lists yourself — they are free to search. Do not buy a used car seat, carrier or helmet at all.

Questions to ask the seller
These are the three that get asked most often about a high chair, and the answers tell you most of what you need:
Check every strap and the buckle and answer specifically. Parents will not buy a high chair with a missing strap, and replacements are often model specific and hard to source.
Photograph it clean rather than claiming it. Fabric seat pads stain permanently, so if yours is marked, show it and price it accordingly.
Give the manufacturer’s stated range, including whether it reclines for younger babies or converts for older children. Parents are buying for a specific stage.

- Test every adjustment and the folding mechanism
- Confirm the harness is complete and fastens properly
- Deep clean the tray and seat before photographing

- The chair set up, whole, from a three-quarter angle
- The harness laid out, showing all straps and the buckle
- The tray removed and the seat, clean, from above
- The folding catches and footprint folded, plus any crack, stain or missing part

Steady all year, with a small lift in the new year. Well-known brands in clean condition sell within days because the alternative is spending several times as much new.
Prices move against that cycle for a buyer: the cheapest time to buy is when sellers are listing most, not when demand peaks.
