What a used wardrobe is worth by condition
Condition does more to the price than anything else. These figures are worked from the top of the range for wardrobes, so treat them as a starting point and adjust for the specifics of yours.
| Condition | Typical price | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| New with Tags | £300 | Unused, tags or seals intact |
| Like New | £255 | Barely used, no visible wear |
| Good | £195 | Light signs of use, complete and working |
| Fair | £135 | Heavily used, or a described fault or missing part |
| For Parts | £75 | Not working or incomplete, sold as seen |
These are the five grades WishThrift listings use, and sellers set the grade themselves — see what each condition grade means. Figures are shown in pounds as a reference point. On WishThrift prices display in your own currency, and sellers set their own asking price.
What raises the value of a wardrobe
- Solid wood construction that dismantles and rebuilds
- Antique and mid-century pieces with a following
- Intact hanging rails, shelves and working doors
- Original keys for lockable pieces
What lowers it
- Particleboard construction that will not survive dismantling
- Doors that no longer hang square
- Missing shelves, rails or fittings
- Very large single-piece units that will not fit through doors
How to work out what yours is worth
- Measure height, width and depth, and check your own doorways
- Confirm whether it dismantles and whether you have the fittings
- Open and close every door to check the hang
Once you have those three answers you can place your own wardrobe on the table above with reasonable confidence. If it sits between two rows, price it toward the lower one — items priced honestly sell faster than items priced hopefully.

Frequently asked questions
Are used wardrobes worth much?
Solid wood and antique pieces sell reasonably. Modern particleboard wardrobes are worth little, mainly because they rarely survive being taken apart.
Does it matter whether a wardrobe dismantles?
It matters enormously. A wardrobe that cannot come apart may not leave the room, which rules out most buyers.
Should I include the fittings?
Yes, and bag them clearly. Missing cam locks and dowels are the usual reason a dismantled wardrobe cannot be rebuilt.
