Identifying and dating yours

1. The neck or care label distinguishes mainline Next from the Signature line, and buyers search the latter by name

3. State the drop and width on curtains and the exact size on bedding, because these sell on measurements rather than on the label

Quantity, size and fabric: “Set of 4 Velvet Cushions, 45x45cm, with Pads”. Size and quantity are the searches, and stating that pads are included prevents the usual disappointment. Covers-only is a legitimate listing, just say so.

Preparing and photographing it

1. Check whether the covers are removable and washable, and wash them if they are.
2. Check the zips and the inner pads, and say whether pads are included or covers only.
3. Look for a fire safety label, which filled furnishings usually carry, and check for fading on one side.

Lifts in autumn and in spring around redecorating. Sets in current colours sell within a fortnight; odd single cushions are slow.

Light but bulky, so measure the packed parcel — volumetric weight decides the cost. Vacuum bags shrink a set of four dramatically and cut the postage.
