Find answers to common questions about buying and selling on WishThrift.
📦 Listings
How do I post a listing?
Click the + Sell button in the header. You’ll need a free seller account. Fill in the title, category, condition, price and photos. Your listing goes live immediately once you submit.
How many photos can I upload?
You can upload up to 10 photos per listing. We strongly recommend using all available slots — listings with multiple clear photos receive significantly more messages from buyers.
Can I edit or delete my listing?
Yes. Go to Dashboard → My Listings and click Edit on any listing. You can update any field, change photos, or delete the listing entirely.
How do I mark an item as sold?
Go to Dashboard → My Listings and click Mark as Sold. The listing will remain visible but marked as sold so buyers know it’s no longer available.
Is there a fee to list?
No. Listing on WishThrift is completely free. We also never charge a commission or transaction fee. WishThrift never handles any money between buyers and sellers.
💬 Messaging
How do I contact a seller?
Click the Message Seller button on any listing page. You’ll need a free account to send messages. Once sent, you’ll find the conversation in your inbox under Account → Messages.
Can I share my phone number in messages?
Yes, once you’re satisfied that the buyer or seller is genuine, you can share contact details to arrange the handover. However, we recommend keeping initial conversations inside WishThrift for your safety.
Are messages private?
Yes. Messages are only visible to the two users in the conversation. WishThrift staff can access messages only in cases of reported abuse.
💳 Payments
How do payments work on WishThrift?
Buyers and sellers arrange payment directly between themselves — WishThrift never handles money, never takes a commission, and never asks for card details. Once you agree on a price in Messages, choose a payment method together: cash for local pickup, or a buyer-protected method like PayPal for shipped items.
Which payment methods are safest?
Local pickup: cash on collection is simplest — you inspect the item first, then pay. Shipped items: use a method with buyer protection, such as PayPal Goods & Services, so you can raise a dispute if something goes wrong. Whatever you choose, keep the agreement in your WishThrift messages so there is a record.
Which payment methods should I avoid?
Never pay by bank wire, gift cards, cryptocurrency, or “friends & family” transfers to someone you don’t know — these offer no protection and can’t be reversed. Walk away from any buyer who “accidentally overpays” and asks you to refund the difference: it’s a classic scam.
Will WishThrift ever ask me to pay anything?
No — WishThrift is 100% free for buyers and sellers: no listing fees, no commission, no hidden charges. If you receive an email or message asking you to pay a fee, “verify” a payment, or click a payment link claiming to be from WishThrift, it is fraudulent — report it to support@wishthrift.com.
🔒 Safety
How do I stay safe when buying?
Always meet in a public place — a coffee shop, shopping centre, or police station car park. Never send money in advance. Inspect the item before paying. Bring a friend for expensive items. Trust your instincts.
Does WishThrift process any payments?
No. WishThrift is a listings and messaging platform only. All payments are arranged directly between buyers and sellers. We never ask you to send money through the site.
How do I report a suspicious listing or user?
Use the Report button on the listing or profile page. Our team reviews all reports within 24 hours. For urgent safety concerns, contact your local authorities directly.
How can I tell if a seller is trustworthy?
Look for the Verified Seller badge (identity-checked by our team), read the ratings and reviews on their profile, and check how long they’ve been a member. Clear, original photos and prompt, straightforward answers in messages are good signs too.
🔁 Returns & Disputes
Can I return an item I bought?
Returns are agreed between you and the seller — WishThrift doesn’t process orders, so there is no central returns system. Before paying, ask the seller about condition and measurements, and whether they’d accept a return. For local pickup, inspect the item before handing over any money — that’s your best protection.
What if a shipped item never arrives?
Message the seller first — most delays are simply postal — and ask for the tracking number. If the seller stops responding and you paid with a buyer-protected method like PayPal Goods & Services, open a dispute with the payment provider: that’s exactly what it’s for. Then report the seller to us so we can review the account.
What if the item isn’t as described?
Contact the seller through Messages and explain the issue with photos — most sellers will resolve it with a partial refund or a return. If you can’t reach an agreement, use your payment provider’s dispute process (where available), leave an honest rating on the seller’s profile, and report the listing if you believe it was deliberately misdescribed.
What happens when I report a user or listing?
Our team reviews every report within 24 hours. Accounts that scam, misdescribe items, or break our Terms of Service are warned, suspended, or permanently banned. Reports are confidential — the reported user is never told who reported them.
👤 Account
Can I have both a buyer and seller account?
Yes. When registering, select Both as your account type. This gives you access to both the buyer messaging inbox and the seller dashboard for listing items.
How do I reset my password?
Go to the Login page and click Forgot Password. Enter your email address and we’ll send you a reset link within a few minutes.
How do I delete my account?
Go to Account → Settings and scroll to the bottom. Click Delete Account. You’ll be asked to confirm. All your listings will be unpublished and your data deleted within 30 days.
