3. The composition and country label sits in the inside pocket or side seam and is worth photographing, since the main line is made in Italy

What lifts any parka, whatever the label

• Whether it is waterproof, showerproof or neither, and whether the coating still works

Preparing and photographing it

1. Read the label for the fill: down, feather or synthetic wadding, and the outer fabric.
2. Check the hood, its fur trim and whether both detach, plus every zip, popper and drawcord.
3. Test whether water still beads on the outer, and say honestly if the coating has washed off.
