1. Check the tip for fraying and the keeper loop on the back, which frequently detaches.
2. Look for pulls in the silk and for staining near the knot area.
3. Measure the length and the width at the widest point, since fashion in tie width changes.

Are old Versace pieces worth more than new ones?

Gianni-era pieces from before 1997 often are, because they are collected as period design rather than worn as clothing. Condition of the print and the hardware still decides most of the price.
