Condition on WishThrift is described by the seller against five grades, and nobody inspects it on your behalf — so the description and the photographs are what you are buying on.

The checklist before you pay
Safety history you cannot see. A car seat that has been in a collision, a cot with a replaced part, or an item subject to a recall all look completely normal.
Run through these before money changes hands — they are the things that decide whether nursery furniture is worth what is being asked:

- Particleboard that will not survive dismantling
- Missing fittings
- Chipped or scuffed painted finishes
And the things worth paying more for, because they hold their value:

Questions to ask the seller
These are the three that get asked most often about nursery furniture, and the answers tell you most of what you need:
Say no, and say why: a new mattress of the correct size is the recommended approach for a new baby and costs relatively little. Buyers respect the reasoning.
Check and say. Convertible cot beds are worth meaningfully more because they last years longer, and it is a specific search.
Count them against the instructions and photograph them. Cot fixings are model specific and a set missing them is very hard for a buyer to reassemble safely.

- Confirm every piece is the same range and finish
- Bag all fittings before dismantling

- The whole set together in the room, so the match is obvious

- The wardrobe or dresser interior, open
- All fixings laid out, plus any chip, tooth mark, scratch or missing part

- Exactly which pieces are included, with dimensions of each
- Whether the cot converts to a toddler bed, and the mattress size it takes
- Brand and finish, and whether every piece matches
- Whether all fixings and instructions are present

Steady year round with a spring lift. Matching sets in current neutral finishes sell within a fortnight; mismatched pieces do better sold individually.
Prices move against that cycle for a buyer: the cheapest time to buy is when sellers are listing most, not when demand peaks.
