Seller-declared grades, sterling with an approximate US dollar equivalent at £1 ≈ $1.33 (July 2026). What each grade means.
What holds its value across Gucci
- Archive and heritage lines — Jackie, Bamboo, Horsebit, Dionysus — which hold independently of season
- The Marmont range, still the most consistently traded modern line
- Original dust bag, box and any accompanying booklet, which materially move the price
- Full-grain leather pieces over coated canvas, which age far better
What pulls Gucci resale value down
- Worn corners and edge coating, the first place a bag shows its age
- Tarnished or pitted hardware, which cannot be restored to original
- Coated canvas that has begun to lift or crack at the folds
- Interior staining or odour, which buyers treat as close to terminal
Identifying and dating yours
- The serial is on a leather tab inside, usually under the interior pocket: style number above, supplier code below
- Modern pieces carry a ‘Gucci made in Italy’ heat stamp with a registered mark — the font weight and letter spacing are consistent
- Hardware should be weighty and smoothly engraved; light, sharp-edged hardware is the commonest tell
What lifts any raincoat, whatever the label
Waterproof coats fail invisibly: the fabric looks fine long after the coating that made it waterproof has broken down.
- Recognised technical brands with named membranes
- Taped seams still fully bonded inside
- Working two-way and pit zips
- Durable water repellent still beading
And what pulls one down
- Delaminated coating flaking off the inner face
- Seam tape lifting at the shoulders
- Wetting out, where the face fabric soaks rather than beads
- Unbranded raincoats, which sell for very little
Working out what yours is worth
- Turn it inside out and check the seam tape is fully bonded
- Splash water on the shoulders and see whether it beads
- Note the membrane name from the label
What to state in the listing
- Chest and length measured flat, plus the label size
- Whether it is waterproof, showerproof, or a shower-resistant fashion coat
- Whether the seams are taped, and whether it is lined
- Any peeling of the inner coating, which is the usual end-of-life fault
Brand, waterproof rating and size: “Rains Waterproof Raincoat, Size M, Taped Seams”. Named outdoor brands carry real value. If it has a millimetre hydrostatic head rating on the label, quote it — buyers who care about staying dry search for exactly that.
Preparing and photographing it
- Run water over a sleeve and watch. If it soaks in rather than beading, the coating has gone and the coat should be described as showerproof at best.
- Check the taped seams inside for lifting, which is where waterproof coats fail first.
- Test the zip and any storm flap, and check the hood adjusters and cuff tabs are all present.
- The coat on a hanger, front, whole
- The taped seams inside, close up
- The hood and cuffs, showing adjusters
- The care label with size and fabric, plus any peeling, stain or worn area
When it sells best, and handing it over
Lifts in autumn and again in spring. Technical outdoor brands sell year round; fashion raincoats are seasonal and compete on style.
Light and packs small, so postage is cheap. Fold rather than compress anything with a membrane, and mention it has been washed with a technical wash if you have done so.
What buyers ask
Do Gucci bags hold their value?
Archive lines like Jackie, Bamboo and Dionysus hold well, and Marmont trades consistently. Seasonal logo pieces depreciate much faster.
Where is the serial number on a Gucci bag?
On a leather tab inside, generally beneath the interior pocket, with the style number above and the supplier code below.
How much is a Gucci raincoat worth?
Roughly £24 to £96 depending on condition, against £15 to £60 for raincoats generally. The identification points above are what move a listing to the top of that range.
What the fees would take elsewhere
At the mid-range £60 for a Gucci raincoat, against what the commission marketplaces would deduct:
| Platform | Fee | You keep |
|---|---|---|
| Poshmark | −£12 | £48 |
| eBay | −£8 | £52 |
| Mercari | −£6 | £54 |
| Etsy | −£4 | £56 |
| WishThrift | −£0 | £60 |
Seller-side rates verified 26 Jul 2026, percentages only — the per-order and processing charges those platforms add are excluded, so the real gap is wider.
