Honda Motorbikes Resale Value

A used Honda motorbike is typically worth £550 to £5,500 (approximately $733 to $7,327), against £500 to £5,000 for motorbikes generally. Honda’s resale advantage is simply that the things keep running. Across motorcycles, cars, generators and mowers the same pattern holds — high mileage matters less here than it does elsewhere, provided the servicing is documented.

What holds its value across Honda

  • The CB and CBR ranges, which are the bikes most riders learn on and move up through, so demand exists at every price point
  • Cars with a full service history, particularly the Civic and Jazz, which sell on a reputation for reliability rather than on specification
  • EU-series generators, which are the quiet inverter units tradespeople and campers specifically ask for by name
  • Bikes and machinery kept standard and serviced on schedule, since the brand’s buyers are the ones who care most about documentation

What pulls Honda resale value down

  • Corroded exhaust downpipes and fasteners on older bikes, which is the usual winter damage and is the first thing an inspecting buyer looks at
  • Missing service history, which costs more here than on most marques precisely because buyers are paying for proven reliability
  • Neglected valve clearances and cam chain tensioners on higher-mileage engines, which are audible and which buyers price down hard
  • Machinery stored with stale fuel in the carburettor, which is the standard reason a generator or mower will not start and needs stripping to fix

Identifying and dating yours

  1. The VIN is on the frame headstock of a bike and the bulkhead or windscreen base of a car — check it matches the V5C before you advertise
  2. The model code stamped alongside the VIN identifies the exact variant, which matters because Honda sells many similar-looking versions
  3. Photograph the service book and the receipts; on this marque the paperwork is a larger share of the price than the cosmetics are

What lifts any motorbike, whatever the label

Service history does more for a bike’s price than mileage does, and buyers ask for it before almost anything else.

  • A complete, stamped service history
  • Recent tyres, chain and sprockets
  • An MOT with meaningful time remaining where applicable
  • One or two previous owners rather than many

And what pulls one down

  • Missing service history, which buyers discount heavily
  • Corrosion on fasteners, forks and downpipes
  • Crash damage, including replaced levers and scuffed bar ends
  • Non-standard exhausts and modifications

Working out what yours is worth

  1. Gather the service book, receipts and any MOT history
  2. Photograph the chain, sprockets and tyre tread
  3. Note mileage, owner count and the exact model year

What to state in the listing

  • Make, model, engine capacity, year and mileage
  • MOT expiry, service history and number of previous owners
  • Chain, sprocket and tyre condition, with approximate remaining life
  • Any drop damage, modifications, or aftermarket parts fitted

Make, model, engine size, year and mileage: “Yamaha MT-07 689cc, 2019, 11,000 miles, MOT to June 2026”. Engine size matters for licence categories and is a primary filter. Mention if it is A2 licence compatible, which is a deliberate search among newer riders.

Preparing and photographing it

  1. Gather the V5C, service history, MOT certificates and any receipts, particularly for chain, tyres and major services.
  2. Check the chain tension and sprocket teeth, measure the tyre tread, and note the mileage and MOT expiry.
  3. Clean it thoroughly, and be honest about any drop damage — scraped bar ends and levers are obvious to any rider.
  1. Both sides in daylight, full bike in frame
  2. The chain and rear sprocket close up
  3. The clocks showing the mileage
  4. The tyres showing tread, plus any scrape, dent or corrosion

When it sells best, and handing it over

Strongly seasonal: March through August, peaking in spring. Selling a bike in December typically means accepting considerably less or waiting.

Confirm cleared funds before the keys and V5C move — WishThrift does not process or hold payment. If a buyer wants a test ride, check their licence and insurance first, and hold something of value while they are out.

What buyers ask

Does high mileage hurt a Honda’s value?

Less than most. These engines routinely run very high mileages, so a documented high-mileage example often sells better than a low-mileage one with no history.

Why will my Honda generator not start after storage?

Almost always stale fuel gumming the carburettor. Say so honestly if it is not running — buyers who know the machines expect it and will price for a carb clean.

How much is a Honda motorbike worth?

Roughly £550 to £5,500 depending on condition, against £500 to £5,000 for motorbikes generally. The identification points above are what move a listing to the top of that range.
