Seller-declared grades, sterling with an approximate US dollar equivalent at £1 ≈ $1.33 (July 2026). What each grade means.
What holds its value across DeWalt
- Brushless XR tools, which are marked on the housing and are substantially more capable than the brushed versions that look almost identical
- Healthy 18V XR batteries, particularly the higher-capacity packs, which frequently sell for more than the tool they came with
- FlexVolt tools and packs, which run at two voltages and are the only route into the 54V range
- Complete kits with the charger, the case and both batteries, which sell far more readily than a bare tool at a proportionate price
What pulls DeWalt resale value down
- Dead or tired battery packs, which are the single biggest deduction on any cordless tool and which cannot be judged from a photograph
- Brushed motors on tools that also exist in a brushless version, since buyers who know the range will hold out for the better one
- Missing chargers, which are inexpensive individually but immediately make a kit incomplete in a buyer’s eyes
- Cracked gearbox housings and stripped chucks, which on a drill are the failures that end the tool rather than merely mark it
Identifying and dating yours
- The model number is on the nameplate on the tool body, and the date code stamped beside it gives the year and week it was made
- Brushless tools carry the XR badge and the word brushless printed on the housing — photograph it, because it changes the price materially
- Battery packs have their capacity in amp-hours printed on the label, and many have a charge-state button worth pressing on camera
What lifts any circular saw, whatever the label
Saws are judged on the base plate and guard, because a bent plate makes accurate cutting impossible.
- Flat, undamaged base plates
- Retracting guards that spring back reliably
- Recognised trade brands with blade availability
- Rip fence and blade spanner included
And what pulls one down
- Bent base plates, which prevent square cuts
- Sticking or damaged blade guards, a safety issue
- Worn arbor and bearing play
- Missing fences and spanners
Working out what yours is worth
- Lay the base plate on a flat surface and check for rock
- Retract the guard and confirm it snaps back
- Check for play at the blade arbor
What to state in the listing
- Brand, model, blade diameter and maximum cut depth
- Corded wattage, or battery platform and voltage for cordless
- Whether a blade, guide rail, case or dust adapter is included
- Guard function, cable condition and any fault
Brand, blade size and power: “Makita 190mm Circular Saw, 1200W, Corded” or “DeWalt 18V Cordless Circular Saw, Body Only”. Blade diameter is the search. On cordless tools say body only or how many batteries, because it changes the price completely.
Preparing and photographing it
- Test the lower guard repeatedly. If it sticks open, the saw is unsafe and must not be sold as working.
- Check the cable for nicks along its whole length, and the plug for damage.
- Test the depth and bevel adjustments, and note the blade size and whether a blade is included.
- The saw from the side, whole, on a bench
- The lower guard in the closed position
- The base plate and depth and bevel adjusters
- The cable and plug, plus the rating plate and any damage
When it sells best, and handing it over
Lifts in spring as projects start and before Christmas. Trade brands sell within days; unbranded tools compete on price alone.
Heavy and awkward. Remove the blade or ensure the guard is secured for transport, and box it properly — an exposed blade in a parcel is dangerous to whoever handles it.
What buyers ask
Should I sell DeWalt tools with or without batteries?
With, if the packs are healthy. Batteries are most of the value to a buyer who is not already on the platform, and a complete kit sells much faster than a bare tool.
How do I describe battery condition honestly?
State the age, the amp-hour rating and how long a pack lasts under real use. Buyers expect some degradation; what they will not accept is finding out after the sale.
How much is a DeWalt circular saw worth?
Roughly £33 to £198 depending on condition, against £30 to £180 for circular saws generally. The identification points above are what move a listing to the top of that range.
What the fees would take elsewhere
At the mid-range £115 for a DeWalt circular saw, against what the commission marketplaces would deduct:
| Platform | Fee | You keep |
|---|---|---|
| Poshmark | −£23 | £92 |
| eBay | −£16 | £99 |
| Mercari | −£12 | £104 |
| Etsy | −£7 | £108 |
| WishThrift | −£0 | £115 |
Seller-side rates verified 26 Jul 2026, percentages only — the per-order and processing charges those platforms add are excluded, so the real gap is wider.
