What a used raincoat is worth by condition
Condition does more to the price than anything else. These figures are worked from the top of the range for raincoats, so treat them as a starting point and adjust for the specifics of yours.
| Condition | Typical price | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| New with Tags | £60 | Unused, tags or seals intact |
| Like New | £51 | Barely used, no visible wear |
| Good | £39 | Light signs of use, complete and working |
| Fair | £27 | Heavily used, or a described fault or missing part |
| For Parts | £15 | Not working or incomplete, sold as seen |
These are the five grades WishThrift listings use, and sellers set the grade themselves — see what each condition grade means. Figures are shown in pounds as a reference point. On WishThrift prices display in your own currency, and sellers set their own asking price.
What raises the value of a raincoat
- Recognised technical brands with named membranes
- Taped seams still fully bonded inside
- Working two-way and pit zips
- Durable water repellent still beading
What lowers it
- Delaminated coating flaking off the inner face
- Seam tape lifting at the shoulders
- Wetting out, where the face fabric soaks rather than beads
- Unbranded raincoats, which sell for very little
How to work out what yours is worth
- Turn it inside out and check the seam tape is fully bonded
- Splash water on the shoulders and see whether it beads
- Note the membrane name from the label
Once you have those three answers you can place your own raincoat on the table above with reasonable confidence. If it sits between two rows, price it toward the lower one — items priced honestly sell faster than items priced hopefully.

Frequently asked questions
How do I know if a raincoat is still waterproof?
Turn it inside out and check the seam tape has not lifted, then splash water on it. If it soaks in rather than beading, the finish has gone.
Can a raincoat be re-waterproofed?
The outer repellent can be reproofed cheaply and works well. A delaminated membrane cannot be fixed, so check both.
Does the brand matter?
Considerably. Technical brands with named membranes hold value; unbranded rainwear sells for very little.
