How to Sell a Used Xbox One

A used Xbox One typically sells for £70 to £150, and on WishThrift it costs you nothing to list — no fee, no commission, so you keep the whole amount you agree. Xbox One consoles sell on the model and the storage, and the fastest way to lose a sale is handing over a console still signed into your account.

The short version

  • Typical range: £70 – £150 — see the full Xbox One value guide
  • What decides your price: condition, and how well you evidence it in photographs
  • Cost to sell here: nothing, at any price
  • Category: Gaming

Before you photograph it

Ten minutes here is worth more than anything else you will do. Buyers are deciding between your listing and someone else’s, and preparation is what visibly separates the two.

  • Factory reset the console and remove it from your Microsoft account, then confirm it boots to setup.
  • Test both HDMI and the disc drive with an actual disc, since drive failure is the common fault.
  • Gather the controller, power cable and HDMI lead, and check the controller sticks for drift.

The photographs that sell an Xbox One

Four photographs do almost all the work. Shoot in daylight, near a window, with the item against something plain — and do not use the flash, which flattens texture and hides exactly what buyers are trying to see.

  1. The console, controller and all cables laid out together
  2. The console powered on, at the setup screen after reset
  3. The model and storage label on the underside
  4. The controller sticks and triggers, plus any scuff, crack or vent damage

Photograph the flaws too. It feels counterproductive, but a listing that shows the worst of an item gets fewer questions, fewer withdrawn offers and fewer arguments at handover. Buyers who can see the damage stop imagining something worse.

Writing the title and description

Model and storage: “Xbox One S 1TB with Controller and 4 Games”. The variant matters enormously — original, S, S All-Digital and X are different consoles at different prices — so name it exactly. Say how many controllers and whether games are bundled.

Then state these in the description, because a buyer who has to ask is a buyer who might not bother:

  • Exact model — original, S, S All-Digital or X — and storage capacity
  • How many controllers, and their stick condition
  • Whether it has a disc drive, and whether the drive has been tested
  • That it has been factory reset and removed from your account

What buyers will actually ask

You will receive the same three messages about an Xbox One. Answering them in the listing itself removes the back-and-forth, and answering them well when they do arrive is what turns an enquiry into a sale.

“Has it been factory reset?”

Confirm it, and say you have removed it from your account. A console still tied to a previous owner is the single most common complaint in this category.

“Does the disc drive work?”

Test it with a disc and say. Drive failure is the usual fault on these consoles and an untested drive is worth notably less.

“Is there controller drift?”

Test both sticks in a menu and answer honestly. Drift is common, cheap to fix and forgiven when disclosed — and resented when it is not.

Pricing it so it actually sells

Start from the honest condition grade rather than the price you hope for. WishThrift listings use five grades — New with Tags, Like New, Good, Fair and For Parts — and what each grade means is worth reading before you choose, because grading up is the most expensive mistake sellers make. It does not raise the price; it produces a buyer who arrives expecting something else.

The Xbox One value guide prices all five grades for this item. Pick your grade, take the figure, and if you sit between two grades price toward the lower one. Items priced honestly sell faster than items priced hopefully, and on a free platform there is no fee eating the difference anyway.

What you keep, compared

On a £110 sale — roughly the middle of the range for an Xbox One — here is what the commission-charging platforms would take, and what you would keep on each:

Where you sell itFeeYou keep
WishThrift£0£110
Poshmark−£22£88
eBay−£15£95
Mercari−£11£99
Etsy−£7£103

Seller-side rates verified 26 Jul 2026 — Poshmark: 20% commission on sales of $15 and above; eBay: 13.6% final value fee, plus a per-order fee; Mercari: flat 10% selling fee; Etsy: 6.5% transaction fee, plus a listing fee and payment processing. Percentages are applied to the sterling figure above; the fixed per-order and processing charges those platforms add are quoted in their own currency and are not included here, so the real deductions are slightly larger. Timing and getting it to the buyer

Peaks from November to Christmas, with a second window in the fortnight after. Values step down whenever newer hardware drops in price, so there is rarely any benefit in waiting.

Post double boxed with the console immobilised, or hand over locally. Include every cable — a console arriving without its power lead is effectively unusable until the buyer sources one.

WishThrift does not process payments or arrange delivery — you and the buyer agree both directly — so confirm payment has cleared before the item leaves your hands, and keep the conversation on the site so there is a record of what was agreed.

Ready to list it? It takes about two minutes, costs nothing, and there is no commission when it sells — create a free account or see how selling works.

Frequently asked questions

What is a used Xbox One worth?

Typically £70 to £150 depending on model, storage and what is bundled. See the Xbox One value guide for the condition bands.

Do I need to factory reset before selling?

Always, and remove the console from your account as well. A reset alone does not always release the account binding, and the buyer cannot fully use it until you do.

Should I include games?

Bundles attract fewer lowball offers because the buyer sees a complete setup, and discs cost almost nothing to add to a parcel. List the titles — a sought-after game can carry the listing.
