The short version
- Typical range: £250 – £1,200 — see the full electric bike value guide
- What decides your price: condition, and how well you evidence it in photographs
- Cost to sell here: nothing, at any price
- Category: Bicycles & Cycling
Before you photograph it
Ten minutes here is worth more than anything else you will do. Buyers are deciding between your listing and someone else’s, and preparation is what visibly separates the two.
- Charge the battery fully and note how long a real ride lasts. State the range honestly rather than repeating the manufacturer’s claim.
- Find the battery capacity in watt-hours and the motor power in watts, and check the battery for any swelling or damage.
- Test every assist level, the display, the lights and the brakes, and check whether a spare key for the battery lock exists.
The photographs that sell an electric bike
Four photographs do almost all the work. Shoot in daylight, near a window, with the item against something plain — and do not use the flash, which flattens texture and hides exactly what buyers are trying to see.
- The whole bike side on, drive side
- The battery removed from the frame, showing its condition and the capacity label
- The display powered on, showing charge and assist level
- The motor, and the drivetrain and brakes
Photograph the flaws too. It feels counterproductive, but a listing that shows the worst of an item gets fewer questions, fewer withdrawn offers and fewer arguments at handover. Buyers who can see the damage stop imagining something worse.
Writing the title and description
Motor position, battery capacity and brand: “Cube Kathmandu Hybrid, Bosch Mid-Drive, 500Wh Battery”. Mid-drive motors are worth substantially more than hub motors and buyers search for them specifically. Put the watt-hour figure in the title — it is the closest thing to a range specification buyers trust.
Then state these in the description, because a buyer who has to ask is a buyer who might not bother:
- Motor brand, power in watts, and whether it is mid-drive or hub-mounted
- Battery capacity in watt-hours, its age, and realistic range from a real ride
- Number of charge cycles if the display reports it
- Whether the charger and a battery key are included, and the frame size
What buyers will actually ask
You will receive the same three messages about an electric bike. Answering them in the listing itself removes the back-and-forth, and answering them well when they do arrive is what turns an enquiry into a sale.
Give the age, the capacity and the range you actually achieve. Replacement batteries cost several hundred pounds, so this single answer determines the price.
Answer from your own riding, with the assist level and terrain. Quoting the manufacturer’s optimistic figure will be found out on the buyer’s first ride.
Confirm it, and confirm you have the battery key. Proprietary chargers and keys are awkward and expensive to replace.
Pricing it so it actually sells
Start from the honest condition grade rather than the price you hope for. WishThrift listings use five grades — New with Tags, Like New, Good, Fair and For Parts — and what each grade means is worth reading before you choose, because grading up is the most expensive mistake sellers make. It does not raise the price; it produces a buyer who arrives expecting something else.
The electric bike value guide prices all five grades for this item. Pick your grade, take the figure, and if you sit between two grades price toward the lower one. Items priced honestly sell faster than items priced hopefully, and on a free platform there is no fee eating the difference anyway.
What you keep, compared
On a £725 sale — roughly the middle of the range for an electric bike — here is what the commission-charging platforms would take, and what you would keep on each:
| Where you sell it | Fee | You keep |
|---|---|---|
| WishThrift | £0 | £725 |
| Poshmark | −£145 | £580 |
| eBay | −£99 | £626 |
| Mercari | −£72 | £653 |
| Etsy | −£47 | £678 |
Seller-side rates verified 26 Jul 2026 — Poshmark: 20% commission on sales of $15 and above; eBay: 13.6% final value fee, plus a per-order fee; Mercari: flat 10% selling fee; Etsy: 6.5% transaction fee, plus a listing fee and payment processing. Percentages are applied to the sterling figure above; the fixed per-order and processing charges those platforms add are quoted in their own currency and are not included here, so the real deductions are slightly larger. Timing and getting it to the buyer
Spring and summer are strongest, though electric bikes sell better through winter than conventional ones because commuters buy year round. Mid-drive systems from known brands sell fastest.
Almost always collected, and the buyer should ride it. If you must post, the battery is classed as dangerous goods by most couriers and often cannot be sent at all — check before you promise anything.
WishThrift does not process payments or arrange delivery — you and the buyer agree both directly — so confirm payment has cleared before the item leaves your hands, and keep the conversation on the site so there is a record of what was agreed.

Frequently asked questions
What is a used electric bike worth?
Typically £250 to £1,200, with battery health and motor type the biggest factors. Mid-drive systems from recognised brands hold value best. See the electric bike value guide.
How do I check e-bike battery health?
Charge it fully, ride a known route at a consistent assist level and record the range. Compare that with the original claimed range. Some displays also report charge cycles. Report what you measured, not what the brochure said.
Can you post an electric bike?
Usually not with the battery fitted. Lithium batteries are restricted dangerous goods and most couriers will not carry them, so electric bikes are effectively collection-only. Check with your courier before agreeing anything with a buyer.
