Used freezers in the US typically sell for $81 to $335. Freezers sell steadily because people add a second one, and buyers care mainly about frost build-up and seal condition.

Selling a freezer in the US

Peer-to-peer payment apps dominate private sales, and buyers will usually offer one before they offer cash. Sales tax does not apply to a private sale between individuals.

Distances are the real constraint. State plainly whether you will ship or collection only, because a buyer three states away will otherwise ask.

Demand rises through the spring cleaning season and again around college move-in in August, when furniture and small appliances move fastest.

Working out what yours is worth

  • Run it and confirm it reaches and holds temperature
  • Defrost fully and photograph the clean interior

Getting it ready

  • Check every drawer and flap for cracks, and note the model and capacity from the rating plate inside.
  • Run it for a day and confirm it holds temperature, so you can say honestly that it works.

Photograph

  • The interior with the door open, defrosted and dry, drawers visible
  • The rating plate showing make, model, capacity and energy rating

Put in the description

  • Star rating and energy rating, and make, model and approximate age
  • That it has been run and holds temperature, plus the state of the seal and drawers

Type and capacity lead: “Under Counter Freezer, 4 Star, 85L” or “Tall Frost Free Freezer, 6 Drawer, 60cm Wide”. Frost free is a genuine search, and so is chest versus upright, because they suit completely different spaces.

Steady all year with a lift in summer and around house moves. Under counter models in standard widths sell fastest; large chest freezers are slower but face little competition.

It costs nothing to list

There is no listing fee, no selling fee and no commission, so the $336 a buyer pays is the $336 you keep. You and the buyer settle up and arrange the handover between yourselves; WishThrift does not hold the money or ship the item.

Common questions

Where can I sell a freezer in the US?

List it free on WishThrift and deal with the buyer direct. There is no selling fee, so the whole amount stays with you. Peer-to-peer payment apps dominate private sales, and buyers will usually offer one before they offer cash. Sales tax does not apply to a private sale between individuals.

Does it hold temperature?

Run it with a thermometer inside for a day and give the reading. It is the only claim that matters on a freezer and the only one worth making from evidence.

Why is ice build-up a problem on a frost-free model?

It means the auto-defrost system has failed, which is a real repair. On manual models it is just normal defrosting.

Should I defrost before selling?

Always. A freezer full of ice photographs badly and cannot be moved safely.
