Fair Electronics — Second-Hand Buying Guide

Fair means a fault the seller has named, and it prices electronics at about 45% of the top grade: $5 to $546 across this category (about £4 to £405). It powers on and does its main job, but something named has failed: a cracked screen, a dead port, a battery that only runs on mains.

Where the line falls

Electronics age on two clocks at once: the battery loses capacity every year regardless of use, and the ports and buttons wear with every plug-in.

For comparison, one grade up is Good Electronics and one step down is For Parts Electronics.

Show the device on and working with the fault visible in the same frame, so nobody can claim the two photographs are different units.

Shots that carry the most weight in electronics:

  • Gaming Laptop — Open and running, showing the desktop and screen condition
  • Graphics Card — The card from the side, fans visible, out of the case
  • Headphones — The full pair as they will be sent, from the side
  • Hi-Fi System — The full system stacked as it will be sold

On a typical $275 listing, a marketplace charging 20% takes $55, one charging 13.6% takes $37 and one charging 10% takes $28. WishThrift charges neither side, so you keep the whole $275. Listing is free.
