Buying toys & games in Montgomery
Montgomery is the state capital and a city central to the civil rights movement — the bus boycott began here and several sites are now memorials. It has a substantial air force presence and sits on the river in the middle of the state.
Families pass these on within a few streets as children move past a stage, and much of it never reaches a wider audience at all. Supply arrives in waves after birthdays and Christmas, so being close by matters more than searching hard.
What to check in person
Ask what age it suits and check for a safety mark, because standards have changed and older items may not meet the current one. Look at any printed or painted surface for wear, which is what makes a collectable piece worth little.
Collecting it in Montgomery
It needs a car boot rather than a bag, so agree somewhere you can actually stop for a few minutes. That is easier away from the centre than in it.
Base access is managed, so arrange meetings off it. Getting across town by car is quick and there is room to park, so bulky items are no trouble.

Air force postings move complete households on fixed cycles, and state government employment adds a slower transfer rhythm. Both produce complete sets rather than single items.
Say honestly whether a set is complete and photograph the pieces laid out rather than in the box. If parts are missing, say which — buyers will still buy, and it saves the conversation that otherwise ends the sale. Builds from October to Christmas, then again in a quieter second-hand wave in January.
Peer-to-peer payment apps dominate private sales, and buyers will usually offer one before they offer cash. Sales tax does not apply to a private sale between individuals.
