Sell Your Tablet in the US

Used tablets in the US typically sell for $81 to $470. Outside the iPad line, tablets depreciate quickly, so the honest range reflects how long the device will keep receiving updates.

What lifts the price

  • Recent models still receiving OS updates
  • A screen free of dead pixels and delamination

What pulls it down

  • Battery that no longer holds a useful charge
  • Any account lock still attached

Selling a tablet in the US

Peer-to-peer payment apps dominate private sales, and buyers will usually offer one before they offer cash. Sales tax does not apply to a private sale between individuals.

The US resale market is enormous and highly local — most transactions still happen between people within driving distance of each other, and buyers expect to collect rather than wait for a courier.

Demand rises through the spring cleaning season and again around college move-in in August, when furniture and small appliances move fastest.

Working out what yours is worth

  • Note the exact model and check it still takes OS updates
  • Compare sold listings for that model and storage

Getting it ready

  • Remove all accounts and factory reset so the buyer reaches a clean setup screen.
  • Charge fully and time realistic use, and check the screen for dead pixels and the corners for drop damage.

Photograph

  • Back and corners in daylight
  • The settings screen with model and storage

Put in the description

  • Operating system version and whether updates are still supported
  • Stylus or keyboard compatibility, and whether either is included

Make, model, screen size and storage: “Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 11-inch 128GB Wi-Fi”. Say whether it is Wi-Fi only or cellular. If it supports a stylus, name which one — that is a deliberate search and stylus compatibility is rarely stated.

Steady, with a clear lift before Christmas and at the start of the school year. Larger screens and cellular models sell faster.

It costs nothing to list

There is no listing fee, no selling fee and no commission, so the $471 a buyer pays is the $471 you keep. You and the buyer settle up and arrange the handover between yourselves; WishThrift does not hold the money or ship the item.

Where in the US

The United States is a big place and what sells well moves with it. These are the parts of the United States with their own page for tablets.

Common questions

Where can I sell a tablet in the US?

List it free on WishThrift and deal with the buyer direct. There is no selling fee, so the whole amount stays with you. Peer-to-peer payment apps dominate private sales, and buyers will usually offer one before they offer cash. Sales tax does not apply to a private sale between individuals.

Does it still get updates?

Check the manufacturer’s support list. Older tablets still sell well for reading and video, but buyers should know what they are getting.

What makes a tablet lose value fastest?

Falling out of the software update window. Once security updates stop, buyers discount heavily whatever the physical condition.

Should I include the charger and case?

Yes. They cost little individually but their absence gives buyers an easy reason to negotiate down.
