  • Compressed fill that no longer lofts after washing

Bank transfer via PayID is instant and is what most private buyers will offer. Cash on collection remains common for larger items.

Australia’s second-hand market is strongly local and strongly seasonal, with most activity concentrated in the eastern capitals and buyers who expect to collect.

Australia Post covers everywhere, but distance pricing is real and interstate parcels cost meaningfully more than local ones.

WishThrift has not opened Australia for trading yet, so this page is a guide rather than a live marketplace — the category becomes browsable here the moment the first Australian sellers list.

Working out what yours is worth

  • Shake it out and check whether the fill lofts evenly
  • Check the composition label for down percentage and fill power

Getting it ready

  • Check every baffle for leaking feathers and look for small tears, which puffers get constantly and which are cheap to patch.
  • Test the zip along its full length and check the hood, cuffs and any drawcords.

Photograph

  • Full front on a hanger, zipped, so the loft shows
  • The hood and cuffs, and the baffles from an angle to show loft
  • Any tear, leak point or stain, close up

Put in the description

  • Fill type and, for down, the fill power and down/feather ratio
  • Pit-to-pit and length, laid flat
  • Whether the hood is detachable and whether it has a fur trim

Put the fill in the title, because it is the search and the price driver: “The North Face 700 Fill Down Puffer Jacket, Black, Mens L”. Down fill power is a number buyers know. If it is synthetic, say so plainly rather than letting a buyer assume down and be disappointed.

A short autumn and winter season, strongest October to December. Selling in spring typically costs a third of the value, so storing until autumn is usually worth it.

It costs nothing to list

There is no listing fee, no selling fee and no commission, so the A$192 a buyer pays is the A$192 you keep. You and the buyer settle up and arrange the handover between yourselves; WishThrift does not hold the money or ship the item.

Common questions

Where can I sell a puffer jacket in Australia?

List it free on WishThrift and deal with the buyer direct. There is no selling fee, so the whole amount stays with you. Bank transfer via PayID is instant and is what most private buyers will offer. Cash on collection remains common for larger items.

Is it real down?

Read the label and answer exactly. Down commands a substantial premium and buyers check the label at handover anyway.

Can a leaking puffer jacket be sold?

Yes, if disclosed. Small pinholes are repairable with patches, but a buyer who finds them unmentioned will be unhappy.

Does washing a puffer damage it?

It can if done badly. Down needs a gentle wash and a proper tumble to re-loft, otherwise the fill stays clumped.
