Sell Your Mattress in India

Used mattresses in India typically sell for ₹3,850 to ₹25,500 (about $40 to $270). Be realistic about this one: used mattresses are the hardest item in the home to sell, and a great many listings never find a buyer at any price.

What lifts the price

  • Recent purchase with a clear age
  • No sagging or visible body impressions

What pulls it down

  • Unknown age or history
  • Any suggestion of pests, which ends the sale entirely

Selling a mattress in India

UPI has largely replaced cash for in-person handovers and is instant and traceable, which suits a private sale well. Cash on delivery is still widely expected for anything posted, and it is worth deciding your position on it before you list.

India Post, Delhivery and DTDC all offer nationwide coverage, and courier cost varies sharply between metros and smaller towns.

Demand climbs ahead of the festival season and again in the run-up to wedding season, when clothing, jewellery and home items all move faster.

Working out what yours is worth

  • Lie on it and check for a visible dip
  • State the age and whether a protector was used

Getting it ready

  • Strip it and inspect both sides in daylight for stains, which for most buyers ends the conversation regardless of price.
  • Find the fire safety label sewn into the side seam. Its absence makes an already difficult sale harder still.

Photograph

  • The second side, also bare, because buyers assume you photographed the better one
  • The edges and any mark, dip, tear or repair, close up and uncropped

Put in the description

  • Size in feet and centimetres
  • Type — open coil, pocket sprung, memory foam or hybrid — and the firmness

Collection only, and never leave it outside in advance — an hour of rain makes it worthless and unsellable. If it does not sell, most councils collect bulky waste for a fee and some retailers take the old one away on delivery of a new one.

Slow, always. Expect weeks rather than days even when priced low, and expect enquiries that go quiet after the hygiene question. Clean, recent, protector-covered mattresses in common sizes are the ones that do sell.

It costs nothing to list

There is no listing fee, no selling fee and no commission, so the ₹25,650 a buyer pays is the ₹25,650 you keep. You and the buyer settle up and arrange the handover between yourselves; WishThrift does not hold the money or ship the item.

Common questions

Where can I sell a mattress in India?

List it free on WishThrift and deal with the buyer direct. There is no selling fee, so the whole amount stays with you. UPI has largely replaced cash for in-person handovers and is instant and traceable, which suits a private sale well. Cash on delivery is still widely expected for anything posted, and it is worth deciding your position on it before you list.

How old is it?

Give the actual figure, or your best honest estimate with a reason. Mattresses have a functional life and buyers price against it.

Can you sell a used mattress?

Yes, but be scrupulously honest. Buyers care about age, staining and whether a protector was used far more than about brand.

Does a stained mattress sell?

Rarely, and it should be disclosed with photographs if listed at all. Most buyers will not consider one.
