Sell Your Knife Set in India

Used knife sets in India typically sell for ₹1,900 to ₹13,000 (about $20 to $135). Knives sell well and carry real legal weight: it is an offence to sell a bladed article to anyone under 18, and most carriers restrict or refuse them, so read your carrier’s rules before you promise postage.

What lifts the price

  • Forged, full-tang construction
  • Complete sets with the original block

What pulls it down

  • Rust pitting on carbon steel
  • Stamped budget knives

Selling a knife set in India

UPI has largely replaced cash for in-person handovers and is instant and traceable, which suits a private sale well. Cash on delivery is still widely expected for anything posted, and it is worth deciding your position on it before you list.

India’s second-hand market runs heavily through direct conversation — buyers expect to message, negotiate and ask questions before committing, and a listing that answers those questions up front sells noticeably faster than one that does not.

Negotiation is normal and expected rather than a sign of a difficult buyer. Price with a little room in it and say whether the price is firm.

Working out what yours is worth

  • Check every edge for chips under light
  • Confirm the block and all knives are present

Getting it ready

  • Check each blade for chips along the edge and for rust or pitting near the bolster.
  • Confirm the set is complete against the block, and note any knife that has been replaced with a different make.

Photograph

  • The block or case, showing every slot and whether any is empty
  • The maker’s stamp on the blade or tang, plus any rust, chip or loose handle

Put in the description

  • Maker, model or range, and how many pieces
  • Blade lengths, and steel type if marked

If you post, use a carrier that permits bladed articles, sheath or card-wrap every edge, and use a signed service. For local handover, sell only to an adult — that is a legal requirement, not a preference.

Lifts before Christmas and in January. Named Japanese and German makers sell within days; unbranded block sets are slow and compete on price alone.

It costs nothing to list

There is no listing fee, no selling fee and no commission, so the ₹12,850 a buyer pays is the ₹12,850 you keep. You and the buyer settle up and arrange the handover between yourselves; WishThrift does not hold the money or ship the item.

Where in India

Common questions

Where can I sell a knife set in India?

List it free on WishThrift and deal with the buyer direct. There is no selling fee, so the whole amount stays with you. UPI has largely replaced cash for in-person handovers and is instant and traceable, which suits a private sale well. Cash on delivery is still widely expected for anything posted, and it is worth deciding your position on it before you list.

Who made them?

Photograph the stamp on the blade. On knives the maker is most of the value, and buyers will identify a good one from the mark faster than from your description.

What makes a knife set valuable?

Forged full-tang construction from a recognised maker. Stamped budget knives sell for very little whatever the set size.

How do I tell forged from stamped?

Forged knives have a thick bolster where blade meets handle and a tapering spine. Stamped ones are uniform thickness.
