Selling a hoodie in the UAE

Bank transfer and cash on collection are both normal. Confirm funds have cleared before handing anything over.

The UAE has an unusually active second-hand market driven by how often people arrive and leave — relocation sales mean good-quality items turn over quickly and often at well below their age.

The Emirates is a pre-launch market, so this is what a seller here should expect when it opens. The population turns over unusually fast, and that shapes the whole market: relocation sales put nearly-new furniture, appliances and cars on the market at heavy discounts, and the best stock appears in concentrated bursts as people leave. Distances are short and courier coverage is quick and cheap, so postage is rarely the obstacle it is elsewhere. Expect buyers to move fast and to expect a reply the same day.

Turnover peaks around the summer, when a large share of relocations happen and whole households are sold at once.

Working out what yours is worth

  • Inspect cuffs and hem for stretch and bobbling
  • Photograph any graphic close up to show its condition

Getting it ready

  • Wash it and, if the print is cracked, say so rather than photographing it from a distance.
  • Check the cuffs and hem ribbing for stretch, and the drawcords for both being present.

Photograph

  • The print or logo close up, showing any cracking
  • The neck tag with brand and size
  • Cuffs and hem, plus any bobbling, stain or hole

Put in the description

  • Brand, size and pit-to-pit laid flat
  • Cotton percentage and whether it is a heavyweight fabric
  • Pullover or zip-up, and whether both drawcords are present

Light, compact and among the cheapest garments to post, so there is no reason to limit yourself to local buyers.

Sells all year with a lift from September onward. Recognised brands and vintage prints move within days; plain unbranded hoodies are abundant and slow.

It costs nothing to list

There is no listing fee, no selling fee and no commission, so the AED  222 a buyer pays is the AED  222 you keep. You and the buyer settle up and arrange the handover between yourselves; WishThrift does not hold the money or ship the item.

Common questions

Where can I sell a hoodie in the UAE?

List it free on WishThrift and deal with the buyer direct. There is no selling fee, so the whole amount stays with you. Bank transfer and cash on collection are both normal. Confirm funds have cleared before handing anything over.

What are the measurements?

Give pit-to-pit and length. Hoodie sizing varies wildly between brands and between decades.

Are used hoodies worth selling?

Branded and vintage ones are. Plain unbranded hoodies sell for very little, though listing costs nothing so it is still worth trying.

Does cracked print reduce the value?

On modern hoodies yes. On genuine vintage pieces, some cracking is expected and does not put collectors off.
