Sell Your Game Controller in the US

Used game controllers in the US typically sell for $20 to $67. Controllers are judged on stick drift and trigger wear, and drift is the fault that ends most of them.

What lifts the price

  • No stick drift on either analogue stick
  • Official controllers over third-party

What pulls it down

  • Worn trigger springs and sticky buttons
  • Third-party controllers, worth very little

Selling a game controller in the US

Peer-to-peer payment apps dominate private sales, and buyers will usually offer one before they offer cash. Sales tax does not apply to a private sale between individuals.

The US resale market is enormous and highly local — most transactions still happen between people within driving distance of each other, and buyers expect to collect rather than wait for a courier.

Two practical things shape a US sale. Shipping is priced by dimensional weight as well as actual weight, so a light bulky item can cost far more to send than a heavy small one — measure the box before you quote. And meeting in person is common enough that many police departments now run designated safe-exchange areas in their car parks.

Working out what yours is worth

  • Test both sticks for drift in a calibration screen
  • Confirm any dongle or cable is included

Getting it ready

  • Press every button and both triggers, checking for sticking or unresponsive inputs.
  • Clean the grips and around the sticks, and check the charging port or battery compartment.

  • The grips and the back, showing wear

Put in the description

  • Battery type, and whether a charging cable is included
  • Condition of grips, triggers and buttons

Platform, model and colour: “PS5 DualSense Controller, White, No Drift”. Platform compatibility is the search. The phrase no drift is worth including only if you have actually tested for it, because it is the first thing the buyer will check.

Steady year round with a Christmas lift. Official current-generation controllers sell within days at the right price because new ones are expensive.

It costs nothing to list

There is no listing fee, no selling fee and no commission, so the $67 a buyer pays is the $67 you keep. You and the buyer settle up and arrange the handover between yourselves; WishThrift does not hold the money or ship the item.

Where in the US

The United States is a big place and what sells well moves with it. These are the parts of the United States with their own page for game controllers.

Common questions

Where can I sell a game controller in the US?

List it free on WishThrift and deal with the buyer direct. There is no selling fee, so the whole amount stays with you. Peer-to-peer payment apps dominate private sales, and buyers will usually offer one before they offer cash. Sales tax does not apply to a private sale between individuals.

Do the sticks drift?

Test in a menu that shows stick input and report exactly what you see. This is the entire question for a used controller.

Are third-party controllers worth selling?

For very little. Official controllers hold value considerably better.

Does a missing dongle matter?

On wireless controllers that need one, yes — it is paired and proprietary, and without it the controller may be unusable.
