Sell Your Engagement Ring in India

Used engagement rings in India typically sell for ₹13,000 to ₹154,000 (about $135 to $1,600). Selling an engagement ring is mostly about evidence: a buyer paying several hundred pounds wants certification, hallmarks and clear photographs, and will discount heavily without them.

What lifts the price

  • An independent certificate for the centre stone
  • A setting in current style that needs no rework

What pulls it down

  • Worn claws that need rebuilding before the stone is safe
  • Very dated settings that a buyer would pay to have reset

Selling an engagement ring in India

UPI has largely replaced cash for in-person handovers and is instant and traceable, which suits a private sale well. Cash on delivery is still widely expected for anything posted, and it is worth deciding your position on it before you list.

India’s second-hand market runs heavily through direct conversation — buyers expect to message, negotiate and ask questions before committing, and a listing that answers those questions up front sells noticeably faster than one that does not.

Negotiation is normal and expected rather than a sign of a difficult buyer. Price with a little room in it and say whether the price is firm.

Working out what yours is worth

  • Have a jeweller check the claws and confirm the metal
  • Compare sold listings for a similar stone and setting rather than the retail price

Getting it ready

  • Find any certificate, valuation or receipt. A GIA or equivalent certificate transforms both the price and the speed of sale.
  • Photograph the hallmark and weigh the ring, and note the ring size.

Photograph

  • The centre stone from directly above, in focus
  • The certificate if you have one, and the claws and setting close up

Put in the description

  • Metal and carat from the hallmark, and total ring weight
  • Centre stone type, carat weight, and whether it is natural, lab-grown or a simulant

High value in a tiny parcel. Confirm cleared payment first, use fully tracked and insured postage, and photograph the ring and the sealed packaging. Many buyers at this level prefer to meet, which is entirely reasonable.

A slower, more considered sale than most jewellery, often several weeks. Certificated rings sell markedly faster. There is a modest lift before Christmas and Valentine’s Day.

It costs nothing to list

There is no listing fee, no selling fee and no commission, so the ₹153,950 a buyer pays is the ₹153,950 you keep. You and the buyer settle up and arrange the handover between yourselves; WishThrift does not hold the money or ship the item.

Common questions

Where can I sell an engagement ring in India?

List it free on WishThrift and deal with the buyer direct. There is no selling fee, so the whole amount stays with you. UPI has largely replaced cash for in-person handovers and is instant and traceable, which suits a private sale well. Cash on delivery is still widely expected for anything posted, and it is worth deciding your position on it before you list.

Is the diamond natural or lab-grown?

Answer honestly from your paperwork. Lab-grown stones are perfectly sellable but worth substantially less, and a buyer who discovers it later has a real complaint.

Why is a used engagement ring worth so much less than I paid?

Retail prices include a large margin that does not survive resale. This is normal across the whole jewellery market, not a reflection on your ring.

Do I need a certificate to sell an engagement ring?

Not strictly, but it makes a real difference. Without one buyers cannot verify the stone and price defensively.
