Sell Your Aquarium in the UAE

Used aquariums in the UAE typically sell for AED 125 to AED 890 (about $34 to $240). Tanks sell for modest sums but complete setups sell quickly, because a beginner needs everything at once.

  • Larger volumes, which are disproportionately expensive new
  • Recognised brands with spares available

What pulls it down

  • Silicone seals that have lifted or perished
  • Scratched acrylic tanks

Selling an aquarium in the UAE

Bank transfer and cash on collection are both normal. Confirm funds have cleared before handing anything over.

The UAE has an unusually active second-hand market driven by how often people arrive and leave — relocation sales mean good-quality items turn over quickly and often at well below their age.

Trading is not open in the Emirates yet, so treat this as a reference page: the pricing and the checks below hold, but the listings will appear once sellers here start posting.

Turnover peaks around the summer, when a large share of relocations happen and whole households are sold at once.

Working out what yours is worth

  • Run a fingernail along every seam for lifted silicone
  • Confirm the filter, heater and light all work

Getting it ready

  • List every piece of equipment: filter and model, heater wattage, lighting unit, air pump, substrate, decor and cabinet.
  • Test the filter and heater are working before you list, and note the age of each.

Photograph

  • All equipment laid out together — filter, heater, lights, pump
  • The silicone seals along the inside corners, close up
  • The glass edges and base, plus any scratch, chip or limescale line

Put in the description

  • Volume in litres and external dimensions including the cabinet
  • Every piece of equipment included, named with model where known
  • Whether the cabinet is included and its condition

Collection only, fully drained and with the substrate removed. A filled tank must never be moved even a short distance — the flexing cracks the seals. Transport it flat and supported, never on an edge.

Steady year round, with a lift in autumn and January when people start indoor hobbies. Large complete setups with a cabinet sell within a fortnight; bare tanks are slower — see the fish tank guide if that is what you have.

It costs nothing to list

There is no listing fee, no selling fee and no commission, so the AED  890 a buyer pays is the AED  890 you keep. You and the buyer settle up and arrange the handover between yourselves; WishThrift does not hold the money or ship the item.

Common questions

Where can I sell an aquarium in the UAE?

List it free on WishThrift and deal with the buyer direct. There is no selling fee, so the whole amount stays with you. Bank transfer and cash on collection are both normal. Confirm funds have cleared before handing anything over.

What filter is included?

Name the model. A good external filter can be worth a large share of the whole setup and buyers search for them specifically.

Should I test a used aquarium before selling?

Yes. Fill it outdoors and leave it standing for a few hours. A leak test is the single most reassuring thing you can tell a buyer.

What is the most common aquarium fault?

Perished or lifted silicone seals. Run a fingernail along the seams — any lifting means it needs resealing before use.
