Sell Your Skateboard in the US

Used skateboards in the US typically sell for $27 to $160. Complete boards sell better than parts, and deck condition is judged by delamination rather than graphics.

  • Recognised deck and truck brands

What pulls it down

  • Razor tail from heavy braking
  • Cracked decks through the truck mounts

Selling a skateboard in the US

Peer-to-peer payment apps dominate private sales, and buyers will usually offer one before they offer cash. Sales tax does not apply to a private sale between individuals.

USPS, UPS and FedEx all cover the country. USPS Ground Advantage is normally cheapest for anything under a few pounds in weight; above that the gap narrows quickly.

Demand rises through the spring cleaning season and again around college move-in in August, when furniture and small appliances move fastest.

Working out what yours is worth

  • Check the nose and tail for lifting plies
  • Photograph the deck top and underside

Getting it ready

  • Check the deck for delamination and razor tail, and spin each wheel to test the bearings.
  • Check the griptape and note whether the setup is complete and rideable.

Photograph

  • The underside, showing trucks, wheels and any deck damage
  • The trucks close up with the brand visible

Put in the description

  • Bearing brand and ABEC rating
  • Deck condition including razor tail, chips and delamination

Deck size and components: “Element 8.0in Complete Skateboard, Independent Trucks, Bones Bearings”. Deck width in inches is the primary filter. Naming the trucks and bearings raises the price because those are the expensive parts.

April through September, peaking in summer. Recognised component brands sell year round.

It costs nothing to list

There is no listing fee, no selling fee and no commission, so the $162 a buyer pays is the $162 you keep. You and the buyer settle up and arrange the handover between yourselves; WishThrift does not hold the money or ship the item.

Where in the US

The United States is a big place and what sells well moves with it. These are the parts of the United States with their own page for skateboards.

Common questions

Where can I sell a skateboard in the US?

List it free on WishThrift and deal with the buyer direct. There is no selling fee, so the whole amount stays with you. Peer-to-peer payment apps dominate private sales, and buyers will usually offer one before they offer cash. Sales tax does not apply to a private sale between individuals.

Is it a complete setup?

Say whether it is ready to ride or missing parts. Completes and parts are different listings with different buyers.

What is razor tail?

The tail worn down to a sharp edge from braking. It weakens the deck and means it is near the end of its life.

Do bearings matter?

They are cheap to replace, so gritty bearings lower the price only slightly. Mention them rather than hiding them.
