Sell Your School Uniform in India

Used school uniforms in India typically sell for ₹650 to ₹3,200 (about $7 to $34). School uniform sells in a short, intense window every August, and the detail that makes a listing findable is the school name, because most uniform is school specific.

What lifts the price

  • Items with school-specific logos in current design
  • Listing in the weeks before term starts

What pulls it down

  • Outdated logo designs after a school rebrand
  • Listing mid-term when demand disappears

Selling a school uniform in India

UPI has largely replaced cash for in-person handovers and is instant and traceable, which suits a private sale well. Cash on delivery is still widely expected for anything posted, and it is worth deciding your position on it before you list.

Negotiation is normal and expected rather than a sign of a difficult buyer. Price with a little room in it and say whether the price is firm.

Demand climbs ahead of the festival season and again in the run-up to wedding season, when clothing, jewellery and home items all move faster.

Working out what yours is worth

  • Inspect hems, knees and cuffs for wear
  • List several weeks before the new term

Getting it ready

  • Wash and press everything, and check knees, elbows and cuffs, which is where uniform wears out.
  • Identify the school if the item is branded or logoed, since that is how parents search.

Photograph

  • Any school crest or logo, close up
  • Any stain, worn knee, pilling or repaired seam

Put in the description

  • School name if branded, or that the item is generic
  • Age or size on the label, and actual measurements

Light and cheap to post, and bundles work well. Fold neatly and mention it has been laundered — for uniform that reassurance genuinely converts.

Almost the entire market is late July through early September, with a smaller window in January. Uniform listed in March will barely be seen, so hold it until the summer.

It costs nothing to list

There is no listing fee, no selling fee and no commission, so the ₹3,200 a buyer pays is the ₹3,200 you keep. You and the buyer settle up and arrange the handover between yourselves; WishThrift does not hold the money or ship the item.

Common questions

Where can I sell a school uniform in India?

List it free on WishThrift and deal with the buyer direct. There is no selling fee, so the whole amount stays with you. UPI has largely replaced cash for in-person handovers and is instant and traceable, which suits a private sale well. Cash on delivery is still widely expected for anything posted, and it is worth deciding your position on it before you list.

Is there a name tape in it?

Check and say. Most parents simply remove or cover it, but they would rather know than find another child’s name in the collar.

When should I sell school uniform?

In the weeks before a new term starts. Demand is sharply seasonal and drops away almost entirely once term is under way.

Does the logo matter?

Yes. Schools rebrand periodically, and uniform with an outdated logo is much harder to sell. Check against the current design.
