Used LEGO sets in the US typically sell for $13 to $270. Retired sets are the whole story here, and completeness is what separates a modest sale from a strong one.

What lifts the price
- Retired sets, particularly large licensed ones
- Sealed boxes, which sell far above opened ones
What pulls it down
- Missing minifigures, often a large share of a set’s value
- Crushed boxes on sets sold as sealed
Selling LEGO sets in the US
Peer-to-peer payment apps dominate private sales, and buyers will usually offer one before they offer cash. Sales tax does not apply to a private sale between individuals.
Two practical things shape a US sale. Shipping is priced by dimensional weight as well as actual weight, so a light bulky item can cost far more to send than a heavy small one — measure the box before you quote. And meeting in person is common enough that many police departments now run designated safe-exchange areas in their car parks.
Demand rises through the spring cleaning season and again around college move-in in August, when furniture and small appliances move fastest.
Working out what yours is worth
- Find the set number on the box or in the instructions
- Search sold listings for that set number, sealed and used
Getting it ready
- Sort and count the pieces against the parts list if you can, or state honestly that it is unchecked.
- Check whether the instructions, box, minifigures and any stickers are present, since each affects the price separately.
Photograph
- The minifigures lined up together
- The instruction booklet and box, if present
Put in the description
- Which minifigures are included, named individually
- Whether instructions, box and stickers are present, and whether stickers are applied
Set number and name first: “LEGO 75192 Millennium Falcon UCS, Complete with Instructions and Box”. The set number is exactly how collectors search. State completeness plainly — complete, complete with box, or incomplete with a piece count — because that is the price band.
Strong year round with a sharp Christmas peak. Retired sets appreciate and sell quickly; current sets compete with retail discounts.
It costs nothing to list
There is no listing fee, no selling fee and no commission, so the $269 a buyer pays is the $269 you keep. You and the buyer settle up and arrange the handover between yourselves; WishThrift does not hold the money or ship the item.

Common questions
Where can I sell LEGO sets in the US?
List it free on WishThrift and deal with the buyer direct. There is no selling fee, so the whole amount stays with you. Peer-to-peer payment apps dominate private sales, and buyers will usually offer one before they offer cash. Sales tax does not apply to a private sale between individuals.
Is it complete?
Check against the parts list if you can, and if you cannot, say it is unchecked rather than claiming complete. Collectors verify and remember.
Do I need the box and instructions?
They raise the price meaningfully, but complete sets sell well without them. Instructions can be downloaded, so missing pieces matter more.
Are minifigures worth selling separately?
Rare ones often are. Check individual values before breaking up a set, though complete sets usually sell more easily.
