Selling a leather jacket in the US
Peer-to-peer payment apps dominate private sales, and buyers will usually offer one before they offer cash. Sales tax does not apply to a private sale between individuals.
Distances are the real constraint. State plainly whether you will ship or collection only, because a buyer three states away will otherwise ask.
Two practical things shape a US sale. Shipping is priced by dimensional weight as well as actual weight, so a light bulky item can cost far more to send than a heavy small one — measure the box before you quote. And meeting in person is common enough that many police departments now run designated safe-exchange areas in their car parks.
Working out what yours is worth
- Check the label and feel the grain — real leather is uneven and warms to the touch

- Work the zips. A seized main zip is the single most common reason a leather jacket sells cheap or not at all.
- Turn out the pockets and check the lining under the arms, which is where it splits first.

Strongest from September to November. A good biker or bomber in a common size usually sells within two to three weeks; unusual sizes and colours take longer but hold their price.
