Sell Your Jet Ski in the US

Used jet skis in the US typically sell for $2,000 to $12,100. Personal watercraft are judged on engine hours and whether the hull and trailer are sound, much like a boat.

What lifts the price

  • Low engine hours with service records
  • Trailer included and roadworthy

What pulls it down

  • Hull cracks and previous repairs
  • Missing trailers, which are expensive separately

Selling a jet ski in the US

Peer-to-peer payment apps dominate private sales, and buyers will usually offer one before they offer cash. Sales tax does not apply to a private sale between individuals.

The US resale market is enormous and highly local — most transactions still happen between people within driving distance of each other, and buyers expect to collect rather than wait for a courier.

USPS, UPS and FedEx all cover the country. USPS Ground Advantage is normally cheapest for anything under a few pounds in weight; above that the gap narrows quickly.

Working out what yours is worth

  • Record the engine hours and gather service records
  • Confirm whether the trailer is included and roadworthy

Getting it ready

  • Say honestly whether it has been used in salt water and whether it was flushed after every use.
  • Start it and run it, check the trailer’s tyres, lights and bearings, and locate all ownership paperwork and the hull identification number.

Photograph

  • The pump, impeller and intake grate underneath

Put in the description

  • Fresh or salt water use, and the flushing routine
  • Whether a road trailer is included, and its condition and paperwork

Make, model, year, hours and trailer: “[Make] [Model] 2016, 78 Hours, Trailer Included”. Hours are the headline figure, exactly like mileage on a car. Seating capacity and whether it is supercharged are both real searches.

Tightly seasonal, from April to August with a peak in early summer. Prices drop noticeably from September, so a machine ready in spring is worth materially more.

It costs nothing to list

There is no listing fee, no selling fee and no commission, so the $12,113 a buyer pays is the $12,113 you keep. You and the buyer settle up and arrange the handover between yourselves; WishThrift does not hold the money or ship the item.

Where in the US

The United States is a big place and what sells well moves with it. These are the parts of the United States with their own page for jet skis.

Common questions

Where can I sell a jet ski in the US?

List it free on WishThrift and deal with the buyer direct. There is no selling fee, so the whole amount stays with you. Peer-to-peer payment apps dominate private sales, and buyers will usually offer one before they offer cash. Sales tax does not apply to a private sale between individuals.

How many hours has it done?

Give the reading from the display and support it with service records. Hours are the primary value driver and an unsupported low figure invites suspicion.

Does the trailer add value?

Considerably. Trailers are expensive separately and a jet ski without one is much harder to move and therefore to sell.

Why does flushing matter?

Salt left in the cooling system corrodes it from the inside. A documented flushing routine is a genuine selling point.
