Used guitar amplifiers in the US typically sell for $54 to $335. Valve and solid-state amps sell in different brackets, and the valve market rewards originality much as vintage guitars do.

- Valve amps from recognised makers
- Recent valve service with no hum or crackle
What pulls it down
- Replaced speakers and transformers on collectable amps
- Solid-state practice amps, which sell for very little
Selling a guitar amplifier in the US
Peer-to-peer payment apps dominate private sales, and buyers will usually offer one before they offer cash. Sales tax does not apply to a private sale between individuals.
USPS, UPS and FedEx all cover the country. USPS Ground Advantage is normally cheapest for anything under a few pounds in weight; above that the gap narrows quickly.
Two practical things shape a US sale. Shipping is priced by dimensional weight as well as actual weight, so a light bulky item can cost far more to send than a heavy small one — measure the box before you quote. And meeting in person is common enough that many police departments now run designated safe-exchange areas in their car parks.
Working out what yours is worth
- Play it at volume and listen for hum or crackle
- Note the exact model and year if you can date it
Getting it ready
- Plug in and test every channel, control and input for crackle, hum or dropout.
- On a valve amp, note when the valves were last changed and whether it has been biased.
Photograph
- The rear panel showing inputs, outputs and the valve complement
- The speaker cone through the grille if visible
Put in the description
- Number of channels, and whether it has reverb or effects loop
- Valve age and bias status if applicable, and any hum or crackle
Brand, wattage and type: “Fender Blues Junior 15W Valve Combo Amp”. Valve versus solid state is the main price driver and a genuine search term. Combo or head, and the speaker size, both belong in the title.
Steady with a Christmas lift. Recognised valve amps hold value strongly and sell within days.
It costs nothing to list
There is no listing fee, no selling fee and no commission, so the $336 a buyer pays is the $336 you keep. You and the buyer settle up and arrange the handover between yourselves; WishThrift does not hold the money or ship the item.

Common questions
Where can I sell a guitar amplifier in the US?
List it free on WishThrift and deal with the buyer direct. There is no selling fee, so the whole amount stays with you. Peer-to-peer payment apps dominate private sales, and buyers will usually offer one before they offer cash. Sales tax does not apply to a private sale between individuals.
Does it hum?
Plug in and listen at idle. Hum on a valve amp often means tired valves or filter capacitors, and buyers price that in.
Does replacing the speaker reduce value?
On a collectable amp, yes — originality matters to those buyers. On a working amp it matters much less.
Should I have an amp serviced before selling?
If it hums or crackles, a basic service often pays for itself. Otherwise describe how it sounds honestly.
