Sell Your Dishwasher in the UK

Used dishwashers in the UK typically sell for £70 to £280 (about $94 to $375). Dishwashers sell on being visibly clean, tested and correctly measured — and the smell test is the one buyers apply within seconds of opening the door.

Selling a dishwasher in the UK

Most private sales settle by bank transfer or cash on collection. Faster Payments clear in seconds, which makes a transfer as safe as cash for the seller — wait for it to land before the item leaves your hands.

The UK has the deepest second-hand habit of any of our markets — charity shops, car boot sales and online resale have been mainstream here for decades, so buyers arrive already comfortable with used goods and already know roughly what things are worth.

Distance selling rules bind traders, not private sellers, but an item must still be as described and anything sold as working must actually work.

Second-hand demand peaks in January, in the weeks before Christmas, and at the start of the academic year in September.

Working out what yours is worth

  • Run a full cycle with a load and check the results honestly
  • Remove and clean the filter, then check the spray arm holes are clear

Getting it ready

  • Run a hot empty cycle with a cleaner, then clean the filter, the spray arms and the door seal by hand.
  • Note the model number from the door frame and run a full cycle so you can state honestly that it works.

Photograph

  • The machine front on with the door closed, in place
  • The filter removed and the spray arms, showing they are clear
  • The rating plate on the door frame, plus the seal and any rust or dent

Put in the description

  • Width, height and depth in centimetres, and whether integrated, semi-integrated or freestanding
  • Place setting capacity and energy rating
  • Make, model and approximate age

Width and type: “60cm Freestanding Dishwasher, 12 Place Settings, Bosch” or “Slimline 45cm Integrated Dishwasher”. Integrated and freestanding are different purchases entirely, and putting that word in the title is the difference between the right enquiries and the wrong ones.

Collection. Disconnect the water and waste before the buyer arrives, drain the residual water into a tray, and transport upright — laying a dishwasher down can flood the base and trip the leak sensor.

It costs nothing to list

There is no listing fee, no selling fee and no commission, so the £280 a buyer pays is the £280 you keep. You and the buyer settle up and arrange the handover between yourselves; WishThrift does not hold the money or ship the item.

Where in the UK

Common questions

Where can I sell a dishwasher in the UK?

List it free on WishThrift and deal with the buyer direct. There is no selling fee, so the whole amount stays with you. Most private sales settle by bank transfer or cash on collection. Faster Payments clear in seconds, which makes a transfer as safe as cash for the seller — wait for it to land before the item leaves your hands.

Does it smell?

Clean the filter and seal, run a cleaner cycle, then answer honestly. Buyers open the door and smell it first, so there is no point overstating this.

Is a second-hand dishwasher worth buying?

Yes, and prices are low relative to new. Most poor performance is a blocked filter or spray arm rather than a failing machine.

Do missing racks matter?

Yes. Racks and cutlery baskets are model-specific and expensive to source, so their absence noticeably lowers the price.
