Sell Your Cot in India

Used cots in India typically sell for ₹5,000 to ₹25,500 (about $54 to $270). Cots sell well because they are bulky to buy new and used only briefly, but buyers check one thing first: whether every fixing and instruction is present so they can rebuild it safely.

What lifts the price

  • Current safety standard labels intact
  • Adjustable base heights working properly

What pulls it down

  • Older cots not meeting current spacing standards
  • Drop-side designs, which are no longer recommended

Selling a cot in India

UPI has largely replaced cash for in-person handovers and is instant and traceable, which suits a private sale well. Cash on delivery is still widely expected for anything posted, and it is worth deciding your position on it before you list.

India’s second-hand market runs heavily through direct conversation — buyers expect to message, negotiate and ask questions before committing, and a listing that answers those questions up front sells noticeably faster than one that does not.

Negotiation is normal and expected rather than a sign of a difficult buyer. Price with a little room in it and say whether the price is firm.

Working out what yours is worth

  • Check the bar spacing and safety label
  • Inspect the top rails for bite damage and splinters

Getting it ready

  • Find or download the assembly instructions, and gather every bolt, allen key and fixing. A cot missing fixings is close to unsellable.
  • Check the mattress base and the slats for cracks, and confirm the drop-side or height adjustment still locks properly.

Photograph

  • The fixings, allen key and instructions laid out together
  • Any chew marks on the rails, which are extremely common and should be shown rather than hidden

Put in the description

  • Cot or cot bed, and the mattress size in centimetres
  • Whether a mattress is included, and its age and condition

Dismantle it before collection if you can, and keep the fixings in a labelled bag taped to a rail. That single step makes the handover smooth and is the sort of thing buyers remember when they rate you.

Steady all year. Cot beds sell faster than plain cots because they last longer, and solid wood outsells board.

It costs nothing to list

There is no listing fee, no selling fee and no commission, so the ₹25,650 a buyer pays is the ₹25,650 you keep. You and the buyer settle up and arrange the handover between yourselves; WishThrift does not hold the money or ship the item.

Where in India

Common questions

Where can I sell a cot in India?

List it free on WishThrift and deal with the buyer direct. There is no selling fee, so the whole amount stays with you. UPI has largely replaced cash for in-person handovers and is instant and traceable, which suits a private sale well. Cash on delivery is still widely expected for anything posted, and it is worth deciding your position on it before you list.

Is the mattress included?

Say so either way. Many buyers prefer to buy a new mattress regardless, so a cot without one is not a problem when stated up front.

Is it safe to buy a second-hand cot?

Generally yes, provided it meets current standards, has all its fittings and the structure is sound. Check the bar spacing and the safety label.

Why do missing fittings matter so much?

Cot bolts are model-specific and structural. Without them the cot cannot be rebuilt safely, which makes it unsellable.
