Sell Your Armchair in the UAE

Used armchairs in the UAE typically sell for AED 150 to AED 990 (about $40 to $270). Frame quality decides everything here: a good frame can be reupholstered indefinitely, a poor one cannot be saved.

What lifts the price

  • Original upholstery in good condition, or a recent professional recover
  • Fire safety labels still attached

What pulls it down

  • Sagging seats and collapsed webbing
  • Missing fire labels, which limit resale in some markets

Selling an armchair in the UAE

Bank transfer and cash on collection are both normal. Confirm funds have cleared before handing anything over.

The UAE has an unusually active second-hand market driven by how often people arrive and leave — relocation sales mean good-quality items turn over quickly and often at well below their age.

The Emirates is a pre-launch market, so this is what a seller here should expect when it opens. The population turns over unusually fast, and that shapes the whole market: relocation sales put nearly-new furniture, appliances and cars on the market at heavy discounts, and the best stock appears in concentrated bursts as people leave. Distances are short and courier coverage is quick and cheap, so postage is rarely the obstacle it is elsewhere. Expect buyers to move fast and to expect a reply the same day.

Turnover peaks around the summer, when a large share of relocations happen and whole households are sold at once.

Working out what yours is worth

  • Rock it gently to check the frame does not flex
  • Check the fire label is present under the seat

Getting it ready

  • Vacuum the seat and get down the sides of the cushion — buyers notice crumbs and coins before they notice the upholstery.
  • Sit in it and lean back hard. A frame that creaks or shifts must be described as such, because the buyer will do exactly this test in your living room.

Photograph

  • The seat cushion lifted out, showing the deck and the underside of the cushion
  • The arms and the front edge of the seat, which is where wear shows first
  • The fire label and the legs, plus any stain, tear or thinning fabric

Put in the description

  • Width, depth and seat height in centimetres, measured at the widest point
  • The upholstery material, and whether the cover is removable or washable
  • Any stain, tear, sagging or pet damage, stated before it is asked about

Collection almost always. Measure your doorways and stairwell before you list, tell the buyer which floor it is on, and agree who is lifting before they arrive with a car that is too small.

Steady all year, with a lift in late summer and January when people rearrange rooms. A well-photographed armchair in a neutral fabric usually sells within two to three weeks; bold patterns take longer.

It costs nothing to list

There is no listing fee, no selling fee and no commission, so the AED  989 a buyer pays is the AED  989 you keep. You and the buyer settle up and arrange the handover between yourselves; WishThrift does not hold the money or ship the item.

Common questions

Where can I sell an armchair in the UAE?

List it free on WishThrift and deal with the buyer direct. There is no selling fee, so the whole amount stays with you. Bank transfer and cash on collection are both normal. Confirm funds have cleared before handing anything over.

Is there any pet or smoke smell?

Answer honestly. Upholstery holds odour, buyers with allergies ask specifically, and a chair collected and rejected on the doorstep costs you a whole afternoon.

Are used armchairs worth much?

Design pieces and solid-framed chairs hold value well, because a good frame can be reupholstered. Cheap frames are worth very little.

Is it worth reupholstering before selling?

Usually only on a genuinely good frame, where the work can pay for itself. On an ordinary chair it rarely does.
