Selling a TV in the US

Peer-to-peer payment apps dominate private sales, and buyers will usually offer one before they offer cash. Sales tax does not apply to a private sale between individuals.

The US resale market is enormous and highly local — most transactions still happen between people within driving distance of each other, and buyers expect to collect rather than wait for a courier.

USPS, UPS and FedEx all cover the country. USPS Ground Advantage is normally cheapest for anything under a few pounds in weight; above that the gap narrows quickly.

Getting it ready

Find the exact model number on the rear sticker and note the screen size and resolution.
Locate the stand, feet, screws and remote. A television missing its stand or remote loses more value than the parts cost to replace.

Size, resolution and model: “Samsung 55-inch 4K Smart TV UE55TU7100”. Screen size in inches is the primary search term, so it must be there. If it is not a smart TV, or the smart apps no longer update, say so — buyers assume smart features work and are annoyed to find otherwise.

Sells year round with a clear peak before Christmas and around major sporting tournaments. Large screens move faster than small ones because the saving against new is bigger.
