Used suitcases in the US typically sell for $34 to $160. Single suitcases sell steadily because people replace them one at a time, and wheel condition drives the price.

What lifts the price
- Four-wheel spinner designs over two-wheel
- Working combination locks with the code known
What pulls it down
- Locks with the combination lost
- Oversized cases that exceed standard allowances
Selling a suitcase in the US
Peer-to-peer payment apps dominate private sales, and buyers will usually offer one before they offer cash. Sales tax does not apply to a private sale between individuals.
Distances are the real constraint. State plainly whether you will ship or collection only, because a buyer three states away will otherwise ask.
Two practical things shape a US sale. Shipping is priced by dimensional weight as well as actual weight, so a light bulky item can cost far more to send than a heavy small one — measure the box before you quote. And meeting in person is common enough that many police departments now run designated safe-exchange areas in their car parks.
Working out what yours is worth
- Roll it fully loaded to test the wheels under weight
- Measure it and compare to standard cabin limits
Getting it ready
- Extend and retract the handle several times, checking for play and that it locks at each height.
- Check the zips all the way round, the feet, and the lining for tears, then measure it externally with wheels included.
Photograph
- The wheels close up, showing tread and mounting
- The handle fully extended
Put in the description
- Weight empty, which matters against airline allowances
- Wheel, handle and zip condition, and whether it has a working lock
Size, type and brand: “Large Hard Shell Suitcase, 4 Wheel Spinner, 75cm, Samsonite”. Overall height with wheels is what buyers check against airline limits, and spinner versus two-wheel is a genuine preference people search for.
Strong from April to August and again before Christmas. A sound large case listed in early summer sells within days.
It costs nothing to list
There is no listing fee, no selling fee and no commission, so the $162 a buyer pays is the $162 you keep. You and the buyer settle up and arrange the handover between yourselves; WishThrift does not hold the money or ship the item.

Common questions
Where can I sell a suitcase in the US?
List it free on WishThrift and deal with the buyer direct. There is no selling fee, so the whole amount stays with you. Peer-to-peer payment apps dominate private sales, and buyers will usually offer one before they offer cash. Sales tax does not apply to a private sale between individuals.
Do the wheels roll freely?
Test it loaded and say. This is what the buyer is really asking about, and a confident specific answer converts the enquiry.
What if I have lost the lock combination?
Most combination locks can be reset, and it is worth doing. A locked case with an unknown code is close to unsellable.
Are two-wheel suitcases worth less?
Generally yes. Four-wheel spinners are preferred by most buyers, though two-wheel cases handle rough ground better.
