Sell Your Oven in the US

Used ovens in the US typically sell for $94 to $405. Built-in and freestanding ovens sell to quite different buyers, and stating which you have is the single most useful thing in the listing.

Guide ranges converted from sterling at the 2 August 2026 rate, not quotes — sellers set their own price. Grades are seller-declared; WishThrift does not inspect or verify them.

What lifts the price

  • Working fan, element and thermostat holding temperature
  • All shelves, trays and the original door glass

What pulls it down

  • Chipped enamel and heavily burnt-on interiors
  • Missing shelves and runners

Selling an oven in the US

Peer-to-peer payment apps dominate private sales, and buyers will usually offer one before they offer cash. Sales tax does not apply to a private sale between individuals.

Two practical things shape a US sale. Shipping is priced by dimensional weight as well as actual weight, so a light bulky item can cost far more to send than a heavy small one — measure the box before you quote. And meeting in person is common enough that many police departments now run designated safe-exchange areas in their car parks.

Demand rises through the spring cleaning season and again around college move-in in August, when furniture and small appliances move fastest.

Working out what yours is worth

  • Heat it to a set temperature and check with an oven thermometer
  • Count the shelves and trays

Getting it ready

  • Test every function — fan, conventional, grill, timer and light — and record which work.
  • Measure the aperture dimensions and read the model and electrical load from the plate on the door frame.

Photograph

  • The interior with the door open and the light on
  • The rating plate showing make, model and electrical load

Put in the description

  • Electrical load, and whether it requires a dedicated cooker circuit rather than a plug
  • Which functions have been tested and work, and the interior condition

Type, fuel and size: “Built In Single Electric Oven, 60cm, Fan Assisted” or “Double Built Under Oven, Electric”. Single and double, built-in and built-under are all distinct buyer searches and getting the wording right stops a stream of enquiries you cannot fulfil.

Lifts around kitchen refits, which cluster in spring and early autumn. Clean, tested, recent ovens in standard 60cm apertures sell within a week or two.

It costs nothing to list

There is no listing fee, no selling fee and no commission, so the $404 a buyer pays is the $404 you keep. You and the buyer settle up and arrange the handover between yourselves; WishThrift does not hold the money or ship the item.

Where in the US

The United States is a big place and what sells well moves with it. These are the parts of the United States with their own page for ovens.

Common questions

Where can I sell an oven in the US?

List it free on WishThrift and deal with the buyer direct. There is no selling fee, so the whole amount stays with you. Peer-to-peer payment apps dominate private sales, and buyers will usually offer one before they offer cash. Sales tax does not apply to a private sale between individuals.

Will it fit my housing unit?

Give the exact external dimensions rather than a nominal size. Kitchen apertures are standard in theory and stubbornly variable in practice.

How do I check an oven heats correctly?

Set it to a known temperature and check with an oven thermometer. A thermostat that runs well out is the fault buyers most want to avoid.

Does it matter if the oven is built-in?

A great deal. Built-in ovens need a matching cut-out, so give the exact dimensions or you will waste everyone’s time.
