Bank transfer and cash on collection are both normal. Confirm funds have cleared before handing anything over.

The UAE has an unusually active second-hand market driven by how often people arrive and leave — relocation sales mean good-quality items turn over quickly and often at well below their age.

The Emirates is a pre-launch market, so this is what a seller here should expect when it opens. The population turns over unusually fast, and that shapes the whole market: relocation sales put nearly-new furniture, appliances and cars on the market at heavy discounts, and the best stock appears in concentrated bursts as people leave. Distances are short and courier coverage is quick and cheap, so postage is rarely the obstacle it is elsewhere. Expect buyers to move fast and to expect a reply the same day.

Turnover peaks around the summer, when a large share of relocations happen and whole households are sold at once.

Working out what yours is worth

  • Check the decal sheet for yellowing
  • Note the kit number and scale

Getting it ready

  • Open the box and check whether the sprues are still bagged and the decal sheet is present and unyellowed.
  • Count the sprues against the instruction sheet, and look for any part that has been cut off.

Photograph

  • The contents in the box as they are, showing whether bags are sealed
  • The decal sheet flat, close enough to see whether it has yellowed
  • The instruction sheet, plus the box corners and any damage

Put in the description

  • Manufacturer, kit number and subject
  • Scale, stated as a ratio
  • Whether the decals and instructions are present, and the decal condition

Light and boxy, so posting is straightforward. Pack in an outer carton — the box art is a large part of the value on collectable kits and a crushed corner takes money off.

Steady year-round with a lift before Christmas. Out-of-production kits from established manufacturers sell within days when correctly titled; current-production kits compete with retail and move slower.

It costs nothing to list

There is no listing fee, no selling fee and no commission, so the AED  395 a buyer pays is the AED  395 you keep. You and the buyer settle up and arrange the handover between yourselves; WishThrift does not hold the money or ship the item.

Common questions

Where can I sell model kits in the UAE?

List it free on WishThrift and deal with the buyer direct. There is no selling fee, so the whole amount stays with you. Bank transfer and cash on collection are both normal. Confirm funds have cleared before handing anything over.

Are the decals still good?

Photograph the sheet. Decals yellow and go brittle with age, and it is the most common reason an otherwise complete old kit disappoints.

Are unbuilt model kits worth more?

Considerably. Sealed, complete kits are the collectable item; a part-built kit is worth very little.

Why do decals matter?

They yellow and crack with age, and replacements are rarely available. A good decal sheet is a real part of the value.
